I want a topic where we can just talk about anything. We seem to have a good little community of regular posters here and we could stand a place to talk about non-Cub things. You can ask or post anything. Need a quick gumbo recipe? Need another guy for a neighbourhood game of stickball? Want to brag about your love of
The Sandlot? Do it here. It could also increase traffic, maybe allowing us to overtake the Yankees board someday.
Or it could dissapear in a few days. Who knows, but lets give it a shot.
Anyways, for my first post here, I could use some help. The situation is this; I have a date planned with my girlfriend, but a nice casino oppurtunity looms with some buddies. What's a good excuse to use on her? Keeping her anger at a low level is the main priority.

Well since I gave you some advice when you went with you Dad to the Cubs game...
I would say tell her you Dad asked you to go to the casino and you really don't want to pass up this bonding experience.
Good?

My Dad and I don't really get along, it's not very believable.
I don't have to bring the casino into the lie here, just anything that gets me out of going out with her.
By decieving her, I'm sparing her feelings. And in that way, I honour her.

Me and you GYBE. We got a lot in common.
Whenever I have this conundrum I always tell my g/f...
"Honey, I know we have a night planned tonight, but I wasn't able to get accomodations where I wanted to take you. Tommorrow is better, is that ok with you?"(acting as if it was a surprise, don't tell her though)
She'll be so happy you actually planned something she'll have no other option of saying yes.
Then go buy some movie tickets(a movie she would like, of course) and some time during your date tell her the movie was sold out and the restaurant you were going to didn't have a reservation convenient to the time of the movie you wanted to take her to. The restaurant is like icing on the cake, you don't have to include that. Of course you can flip flop the movie and restaurant and just use one or the other.
You avoid the date tonight and hang out with your boys while making her even more happy.

That's a good call. It requires planning something tomorrow night, but I'm cool with that.
Apparently there was a soccer riot not far from my house last night. Toronto's hosting the Under-20 World Cup, and after the Argentina-Chile game, the Chile team started fighting with the police and some fans went after the refs. Even on another continent these guys still incite riots.

My gf knows better than to try and drag me along to weddings. I swear it seems like every other weekend she has a wedding to go to.
I did have to buy her a pair of shoes to go with her dress though, as penance.

Yeah I am old enough. It will be nice to have unlimited drinks especially after a Cub loss tomorrow. Hopefully we win.

That's why I love living near and around a big city. Driving for 4 hours in nothing but cornfields can put you to sleep real fast.
