An industry source confirmed today that the Orioles and Chicago Cubs have engaged in significant trade talks regarding outfielder Jay Payton as the non-waiver deadline approaches next week.
A Cubs' scout attended last week's series against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at Camden Yards. Payton started two of the three games and went 2-for-8 with two RBIs.
In return for Payton, the Orioles likely would receive two mid-level prospects from the Cubs' farm system.
Jay is not a bad choice. I would much rather have someone else though.

Word. Hendry would have to be out of his mind to give up two prospects for him. He's a well below-average player, any prospect called up would probably do better than him.

Remember who are GM is.
The same guy who traded Greg Maddux for Cesar Izturis.

No, Jay IS a bad choice. He's a poor man's Jacque Jones, if you can believe it...offensively and defensively. He brings nothing to this team that they don't already have.

Jay Payton is an upgrade over Jacque Jones.
I just think we can do better.

Yeah, we can without giving up 2 prospects.
His name is Felix. His last name is Pie.

But Payton can't play CF, which is the only reason Jones gets any time.
Murton and Pagan are both better than Payton. They're younger, cheaper and we already have them. If any prospect is traded for Payton, Hendry should be fired on the spot.
I mean, the Matt Stairs rumour wasn't great either, but at least I can somewhat see him having a role off the bench as a PH. There's no room for Payton on any contending team.

If JH does this he has to be the biggest idiot.. im hearing rumors that we might let go of Murton for this crap. If this is true he needs to be fired ASAP.
