ESPN.com wrote:CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs right-handed pitcher Carlos Zambrano isn't going anywhere.

Zambrano has signed a five-year contract extension valued at $90 million, ESPN Radio 1000 is reporting.

Zambrano and the Cubs have been negotiating since the beginning of the season, but the impending sale of the team by the Tribune Company put the deal on hold. Zambrano has had a solid season, and the value of the deal is approximate $10 million more than it would have been in April.

Congratulations. I was hoping my Brewers would go after him in the off season because 18 million for a pitcher who is as consistent as him and rarely if ever injured seems like a steal compared to all that damn money we gave to Jeff Suppan. Plus it would have hurt you guys pretty bad and been great for us but now my pipe dream is over. Congratulations once again.

I love Z...but consistent isn't a word I'd use to describe him. ERA's by month:

April: 5.77
May: 4.72
June: 2.53
July: 1.39 (!)
August: 7.13

Year over year, he looks very consistent though. Those are some wild swings by month but doesn't he always start out slow? Thats what some of the Cubs fans at my work tell me anyway. But that 7.13 August looks pretty bad thus far. I suppose that helps explain some of your teams bad play recently. I have no idea what happened to our pitching staff but they went from very good to god awful very quick and no one can figure it why so we just blame Yost of course cause he sucks.

Surprised he did not wait another couple months...I think he was worth at least 20% more on the open market. But glad to have him in the fold for the next 5 years.
