Meanwhile, Lilly was on the way to throwing about a thousand pitches (OK, make that 107) in five innings. So he had to exit a little earlier than normal himself. But not to worry. Little did we know that exit would merely inspire Piniella to make The Greatest Double Switch in Cubs History.
That double switch involved reliever Carlos Marmol and outfielder Matt Murton. And here's how well that worked out:
Murton -- who hadn't hit a home run at Wrigley Field all season -- promptly mashed a 3-2 Capuano changeup over the ivy to put the Cubs ahead to stay. And that blast was followed, two pitches later, by Alfonso Soriano's first homer since July, which put the Cubs even further ahead.

The Double Switch Line Made Me Laugh.
It's another one of those is this the can the Cubs pull the miracle article.

I think the real winner here is Ned Yost for putting Chris "I'm worse than Will Ohman" Capuano in to pitch.

Since June 3, the day that stretch began, the Cubs have the best record in the National League (46-33). In fact, they have a better record since June 3 than any team in baseball except the Yankees (who are an even scarier 52-29).
If the season had started that day, the Cubs wouldn't lead the Brewers by only 2

Ok, one more:
Loaded the bases. Walked in one run. Had the winning run in scoring position, right over his shoulder. And barely did escape. Then he somehow managed to call it "as much fun as I've ever had at a baseball game?" Huh? What the heck?
"Hey, that's what you play baseball for, man," Dempster said. "When you're 12 years old, on the Little League field, when you have the bases loaded, that's the situation you dream of.
"That's what it's all about. That's fun. That's baseball. It was a little bit more intense than I probably wanted it to be, I guess. And a little bit more suspenseful. Ron Santo was probably having a heart attack somewhere."

I am so pumped for the end of the season run. I am more excited than '89 and '03. For some reason the way this team plays I have the most confidence in them than any other Cub team. Pitching staff looks good, bullpen is shaping up and the offense just clicks in several different ways. Now only if we could get Soriano to f'n bat 5th we'd be alright.
Heres my lineup
1-Theriot
2-DeRosa
3-Lee
4-Rammy
5-Soriano
6-JJ
7-Kendal
8-Pie
9-pitcher
I know every Cub fan has said this, even me, but I have this wierd wierd feeling, this year boys, this year, things are gonna change... anyways,
in the words of Kanye...
"...sorry Yo its got to be
cause 'em season haters
givin me salty looks...
Throw your hands up in the sky...
Welcome to the
Good Life!"

I'd actually like to see Kendall batting 2nd.
At least until he cools down. Dude has a .405 OBP with the Cubs.

Kendall in the 2-hole is something I support as well. DeRosa has just been more consistent all year and doens't deserve to be that low in the order. Def not behind JJ and you can't two lefties back to back.

Like that also, but could also use Floyd/Monroe/Murton, I'm not pleased with the outfield consistency Lou has put out thus far.

CF and RF are still rotation position for us and part time rotation is 2b with Fontenot getting some at bats.
You could even say Soriano should play about 75% of what he usually plays with his gimp. So it ends up ok with 3 extra competent outfielders. Anytime you play the three posey mentioned you can switch JJ to center since Pie can't hit lefties.
However no matter how you put it we need a solid consistent lineup going into the last couple weeks of the season. Maybe one extra player you can swap in for RF, I guess whoever is hot at the time.
