"Rate" is a defensive metric that measures how many runs a fielder saves or allows over the course of a season out of 100. If a person's Rate is 93, they've allowed 7 runs over the season an average fielder wouldn't have. Likewise, if it's 107, they've saved 7 runs. "Rate2" just normalizes for league difficulty. Anyways, here are the Rate2 stats of the NL 3rd basemen.

Ramirez has a good year all-around, but by far his biggest improvement this season is in his defense. Before this year he had never been above average, whereas this year he's been the best in the league. He may not get the GG because he doesn't have the reputation of Rolen, but rest assured he deserves one.

i agree and i think he should've gotten it in '05, but his name is aramis ramirez and he's known for his bat... i hope he gets it though

The Ramirez trade might end up going down as one of the best moves the Cubs have ever made.

Oh, and you're damn right he should win a Gold Glove. While not the fastest guy in the world, his instincts and anticipation are top notch; combine those with his great first step, and you got yourself a Gold Glove caliber 3B.

Also a good one, but the Ramirez trade still tops it IMO. Particularly so when you look at the long list of inept 3rd basemen the Cubs have had to throw out there since Santo and up until Ramirez.

i say we post this topic on every single board on real gm.... not just mlb... i want to see this on the Carolina hurricanes board... the minnesota wild... the bobcats... etc. maybe some voters for the gold gloves are on real gm?

Lee's probably been the second best defensively at his position, but Pujols is clearly above him. Not that I'd mind if Derrek took it, but Albert is really, really good.

I think the Ramirez trade was better. We got Lofton in the process to replace Patterson at the lead off spot becuase of injury. They both helped that '03 team.

no way in hell pujols has been better than Lee... granted, pujols has gotten much better.... but say he has less errors, sure thats impressive, but we have to take into account the amount of errors lee has saved from the rest of the infield and also balls that pujols might not be able to get to

I agree 100%, 3rd base was a hole for as long as I can remember until they got Aramis. It's kind of like the situtation the Bears have at QB, they haven't had a good one since I can remember.

Maybe Aramis should try out for the Bears.

Pujols rates out better and has less errors to boot. Sorry, Pujols is just better. It's no shame being 2nd best to such a great player.
