Pitching matchup:
Ted Lilly LHP 15-8 3.86 ERA
vs
Homer Murphy RHP 3-2 5.67 ERA
Scouting Report:
Cubs: Lilly took the loss in his last start against the Marlins. The lefty gave up four runs on eight hits over five innings and struck out five. With one more win, Lilly will establish a career high. He's already established a career high in innings pitched with 205. However, manager Lou Piniella has said he may tweak the rotation for the final weekend in hopes of lining pitchers up for the postseason.
Reds: Bailey gave up five runs, but only two earned, on five hits over 5 2/3 innings for a no-decision in a Reds' 8-5 loss his last time out. The right-hander, who walked two, hit a batter and struck out five, had decent moments but was burned by poor defense. Two Reds errors, including one with two outs in the sixth, led to runs scoring. Bailey's velocity was again top-notch, with his fastball in the 94-97 mph range.
Lilly will only throw 40 pitches. Good luck on last day of regular season.
