Wierd that the wiretap says he's unlikely to re-sign with Chicago.

Just an update from Rotowire:
Kerry Wood's one-year deal with the Cubs is worth $4.2 million.
It also contains $3.45 million in performance bonuses, based largely on games finished. "He threw tremendously well the last couple weeks of the season and certainly should go to camp with a great opportunity to pitch late in the game," GM Jim Hendry said.

Jim Hendry has man-love for Kerry. Thats his guy. I was never worried.
I told him to resign, and he listened to my advice.

I like the move a lot. Really, what else is out there? Not only that, but it's another arm the Brewers wanted to sign but couldn't.

Dempster will get a chance to compete for the 4th/5th rotation spots, along with Marquis, Marshall, Prior (when he comes back) and Gallagher. Kevin Hart too maybe, though I bet he remains in the pen.
Hopefully Marquis and Dempster pitch well enough early on to boost their trade value and get some prospects or a SS for them.

Say what you will about both, but the Cubs have stayed loyal to Wood, and Wood has stayed loyal to the Cubs.

so our starting rotation is this?
Zambrano/Lilly/Hill/*Prior*/*Hart*/
I really don't trust Marquis.. i know he had some great starts for us but we need to look at our younger guns.. and im praying prior can get back to his '03 form if thats ever possible.

No it would be Zambrano/Lilly/Hill/Prior/Dempster
The Cubs have already confirmed they are going to use Dumpster as a starter.

No they haven't. They said he'll be in the rotation, which has like 8 guys in it right now. Every team's rotation is big until after spring training when they settle on 5. I think Marshall has to get a spot, he was solid last season.
I bet Dempster or Marquis is traded before opening day.

The only two candidates who are locked in for the starting rotation are Zambrano and Lilly. After that it looks like meh, but I like Marshall as well, more so than Hill for some reason.
