For the second consecutive winter meetings, the Orioles are involved in serious trade talks involving second baseman Brian Roberts.
Several baseball sources today said the Chicago Cubs, a frequent trade partner of the Orioles and a team that needs a left-handed hitter, are aggressively pursuing Roberts, the Orioles' lone 2007 All-Star.
One baseball source said that there is a three-player deal on the table that would include a starting pitcher coming back to the Orioles. Although no specifics have been revealed, the Orioles in the past have been high on lefty Rich Hill and right-hander Sean Gallagher.

ESPN's Steve Phillips believes the Orioles would get Rich Hill and Sean Marshall in a Brian Roberts trade with the Cubs.
We're skeptical of everything that comes out of Steve Phillips' mouth, but there's always the chance that he's right. It has to happen someday. This would be a very good return for the Orioles, though we imagine they're worried about how Hill would fare at Camden Yards.
If Hendry does this I will boycott the Cubs forever.

I've been hearing rumors about Roberts. Well I guess since Hendry traded Infante he needs to get himself another 2B. But this time it looks like he might actually get a 2B that can play everyday, steal bases, and take Soriano out of the leadoff spot. I'd think with 3 players involved the pitcher would probably be Gallagher.
I say make it a blockbuster and get Bedard involved!! right.

I agree, why the hell would we deal our 2 best lefty starters (outside of Lilly). We already gave them something for nothing when we gave them Scott Moore and ???? for Trachsel. I say they can have Patterson, Hill or Marshall and a couple 2nd tier prospects. Hill was top 10 in Ks and had no run support whatsoever last season. He isnt a stud prospect but he is good enough of a player that we shouldnt have to give Marshall and another prospect.

If the Cubs do that Brain Roberts deal I might end up boycotting baseball altogether.
No team should make that awful of a deal.

The Angels said they wanted Aramis for Figgens and there is no way in hell Hendry is doing that.

I take back my first comment. If THIS trade happens, then I'll boycott baseball

The Cubs, who received almost no power production from the left side in 2007, want to add two left-handed hitting outfielders to their lineup. If they can sign Kosuke Fukudome from Japan, that would fill one spot. They've inquired about Geoff Jenkins, and some people in the organization want to see GM Jim Hendry pursue a trade for the Angels' Chone Figgins, a switch-hitter. But the Cubs probably don't have what it takes to land Figgins. The Angels value Figgins so highly, one person with ties to the Los Angeles organization said the team might ask the Cubs for third baseman Aramis Ramirez in return.

Maybe that's why Los Angeles hasn't been able to pull off any trades that we always hear of. If they get rid of Figgins, they are possibly expecting some 3B help in return.

Latest from ESPN:
If Brian Roberts is traded to the Cubs, it's believed that it might not happen until the Orioles complete a trade for either Erik Bedard or Miguel Tejada. According to a source with knowledge of Baltimore's trade talks, the O's have had so much interest in their players that they "have a lot on their table." But the relationship between Andy MacPhail and Cubs GM Jim Hendry dates back several years, so a trade could happen faster than it would with other clubs. Rich Hill, originally thought to be part of a deal, is currently not in the discussions. Instead, Chicago likely would send upper-level prospects to Baltimore. Among the names being considered are Sean Marshall, Sean Gallagher, Felix Pie and Donnie Veal

Good, I wouldn't mind splitting ties with him. He hasn't shown me anything thus far to give him trust. Unless I like a .200 hitting shortstop with a wild arm. There's some guy in Cincinnati now who would like him. Wait, I'm babbling on drunk, he doesn't like to play young guys.
