"After deciding to play in the U.S. early Tuesday morning, Fukudome chose the Cubs' offer on Tuesday night, ESPN 1000 in Chicago reported.

The two sides have reportedly agreed on a four-year deal, but the exact dollar amount was still being worked out. Earlier media reports said that the Cubs were willing to pay the career .305 hitter between $12 million and $14 million per season."

Now we get Roberts in here and we're ready to roll!

Soriano
Roberts
Lee
Aram
Fuku
Pie
Soto
Theriot

I'd rather have Roberts lead off and Soriano at the 5 or 6 but I have a feeling we're stuck with Soriano leading off.

Doesn't look like we overpaid either. Some reports like Foxsports say it was a 4 year deal for $12,000,000 a year while others are saying $15,000,000.

I still wouldn't mind having Derosa play shortstop. He has the same if not more range than Theriot, and has a stronger arm.

Great signing Jimbo!

No, you would not. A deal for Tejada would be near impossible with all that salary.

You sure you wouldn't rather have Cliff Floyd out in RF for only $4M?

He was a decent player for us last year, but is just not a reliable option to play everyday. His power numbers weren't visible either, like every Cubs player.

That would be a good high OBP spot, behind Roberts.

I think he should bat 2nd. Especially if the Cubs land Roberts and put him at leadoff. Drop soriano to the 5 hole. But I'd be willing to bet we see Fuku at the 5.

If there is no Roberts then I don't know where you see him. Probably DeRosa or Theriot at 2 again.

I'm hearing 4 years for $12.5 million.

I don't care how much we pay, he was our only target and we landed him. Good job Jim.

Next step in Cubs offseason- Jimbo goes into a deep hibernation until February.

12.5 a year, obviously. Not bad considering Hendry would've gone as high as $15 million a year most likely.

I agree. But I honestly think the Cubs still need one more bat in their lineup. Either at SS or at 2B. Pie has to be allowed to play everyday in CF, and I think Soto will be very solid behind the plate. And Brian Roberts is the name being thrown around. The last player I want the Cubs to trade for is Tejada. He makes too much money, his play is declining, and he can't play a good SS anymore.
