2008 Cubs Spring Training Thread
I've been thinking about how we would do Spring Training here since this is our first Spring Training at the new boards and I have come up with an idea. For games that will not air on TV (but on radio) we will keep discussions in here. If a game is being broadcasted on TV we can create an individual thread for that games discussion. We can do it that way, or we can just keep all spring training discussion in here.

Don't forget the Bears. We've not had a team to be excited about this winter making the Cubs that much more important. Even my college teams haven't been that great either. So that couldn't even tide me over.

I'd have to agree with that.
If Pie can't hit this year, they must get rid of him. OK, kidding on that one.
What if Pie had these number at the end of the season...
.263 avg | 9 hr | 35 rbi | 16 sb | .319 obp | .412 slg | 92 ops
???

Booo! No one is going to bite on this one. Well, these are Lou Brock's numbers at the same age Pie is now. It was his second year in the league and first year he manned a position full time.
He later had 20+ stolen bases and then had a year in the 40's before going bonkers and having seasons in the 60s and 70s.
They don't steal them like they use to.

Dempster: Cubs will win 2008 World Series

MESA, Ariz. -- Ryan Dempster did his best Carlos Zambrano impression on Wednesday, saying he expects the Cubs to end their 100-year World Series drought this year.
"I think we're going to win the World Series, I really do," Dempster said on the first day pitcher and catchers reported to Fitch Park. "I wouldn't come here and worked as hard as I did, and everyone worked as hard as they did, to not believe that. I think it's funny when people make predictions or they say things and people are like, 'Oh, how can you say that?'
"You believe it. You really do. Enough of all the b.s., and the curse this, the curse that, the goat, the black cat, or the 100 years (without a championship).

I have faith in him, I've always said he has tons of artillery in his pitches. (up to 6 effective pitches, I think)
Fastball
2seam
curve
change
splitter
slider
Thats wicked artillery.
Plus he was an all-star and hes only 31. Lots of pitchers have shifted to and from starter-closer-starter with success.
