Derosa taken off on stretcher with irregular heartbeat

Second baseman Mark DeRosa was taken out of the Chicago Cubs' spring training complex on a stretcher and transported by ambulance to a hospital Saturday after experiencing an irregular heartbeat.

DeRosa was sitting up as he was wheeled out of the Fitch Park complex. Some of his teammates were still in the field winding up a day of workouts.

"Mark's doing fine," manager Lou Piniella said. "He came in with a rapid heartbeat from doing the things on the field and was having a little trouble breathing, so they called in the medical team.

"He's completely stable, but better be safe than sorry. With the irregular heartbeat and so forth, they sent him to the hospital to test him and evaluate him. But he's fine."

Hopefully he's alright and it was just a scare..... Maybe he's preggers...?

Yeah that's what I thought when I read the article. Originally the title said "DeRosa taken off on stretcher" so that scared me.

It's always scary when something like this happens. I'm glad they say he's doing fine

Do you think that maybe Hendry will push a little harder for Roberts now?

DeRosa getting tested, weighing options, including surgery
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring200 ... id=3264453
CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs second baseman Mark DeRosa has left spring training in Arizona to undergo further tests on his heart at a Chicago hospital.

DeRosa -- who turns 33 on Tuesday -- was hospitalized over the weekend after complaining of a rapid heartbeat during spring training drills Saturday morning.

DeRosa met briefly with reporters at the Cubs spring training camp on Monday and said he may consider an unspecified surgical procedure to get his heart back into rhythm.

"If it is surgery, it's an outpatient one," DeRosa said, according to The Chicago Tribune. "A lot of people take medicine. I don't want to deal with that. I'm 32, I don't want to be on medication for the rest of my life if there's a procedure I can do. It's something I've been able to control without any help. The other day was a wake-up call that I probably need to figure some things out and just get it fixed."

This could affect our Roberts situation.

DeRosa reported to have a successful surgery. He'll be back with the team Sunday and could be playing in spring training games in about 10 days.
