Very good news in my eyes. Hopefully with an addition of Roberts we will have a nasty good 3/4/5 punch of Lee, Ramirez, and Soriano. Or Soriano may stay in the second spot and Fukudome would hit 5th. I wouldn't expect Soriano's numbers to drop, despite the fact that he done much worse down in the order statistically speaking.

And for people thinking that this move means that the Roberts deal is close, I would think again.

EDIT

But this may give an indication on Soriano's health and his speed...

This doesn't even have to do with the Robers trade.

Swap Roberts and Theriot when it goes through.

This is great. That means Theriot hasn't done anything wrong in spring training, and that Lou isn't willing to let Superstar egos get in his way.

(cough, cough) Something about Dusty and a midnight call from Sammy... :upset:

Anyways, good stuff.

...and if the Roberts deal goes down I could see

Roberts
Theriot
Lee
Rammy
Soriano
Fukudome
Soto
Pie
(pitcher)

:droop:

I could also see this

Theriot (Roberts, then Theriot bats 8th, Pie 7th, Soto 6th)
Fukudome
Lee
Ramirez
Soriano
DeRosa
Pie
Soto

I think putting Pie in the 8 hole could hamper his improvement. No protection at all. Putting him ahead of Soto or Theriot(guys who are extremely patient and don't need protection) will provide protection.

Unless of course he's just rollin' with super OBP and great contact.

Me hopes-

Roberts
Fukudome
Lee
Ramirez
Soriano
Derosa
Soto
Pie

And if Pie starts doing well I wouldn't mind putting him in the 2 hole and moving Fukudome to 6th.

Well I've been begging for Lou to move Soriano down for as long as they've been here...I just wish there was someone else leading off.

Theriot put up a .326 OBP last year. He's already 28, unlikely to improve and is just a bench player for most teams. If he bats leadoff all season, it's going to hurt the offense.

looks like i get my wish, huh gybe?

im telling you, when sori went down last year and ryan took over lead off for that a short stint, his numbers went up. he did very well at lead off. when sori went back to lead off thats when ryans numbers went down.
this is a VERY good move by lou.

I agree ^

Theriot is much better than Soriano at the leadoff, in conventional baseball wisdom, but Theriot is only better because he can manufacture runs. Soriano also has that hammy thing.

Theriot is a perfect 7-8 hitter.

If we start the season off with

Roberts
Fuku
Lee
Rammy
Soriano
Soto
Pie
Theriot
