What the hell Jason Kendall. Where was this last year when we needed you and you sucked it up at the plate?

9/17 5 RBI's and .529 batting average.

Remember when Chris Shelton was god in the first month of the season 2 yrs ago? He plays in AA somewhere now.

Give Kendall sometime, everything averages out.

So a serviceable player (for pretty much his whole career), comes to the Cubs and does terrible, then goes to another team and does awesome.

What's new?

Yeah he had Lasik surgery done and is saying he is seeing the ball better now than he ever has.

Picking up the rotation right out of the pitchers hand almost immediately...

Damien Miller did the same thing every year he was with the Cubs.

First month of the season, numbers were :o

Last month of the season, he'd be in a 0-20 slump with the BA somewhere around the .230 mark.

No worries. And yes, we have Soto.

We didn't bring him in for his hitting, our offense will be fine without him. Anything he gives us in that regard is gravy. We didn't bring him in to throw guys out trying to steal. If he does that from time to time that's gravy. We brought him in to handle our pitchers. In Gallardo, Parra and Villanueva we have three VERY young, inexperienced starters and Kendall has been great with them.

All of our pitching staff, young and old, HATED throwing to Estrada last year.

Sheets said that in the opener he shook off three pitches from Kendall. Two of them were hits (the only 2 he gave up) and the third was hard hit. In his second start he didn't shake him off and pitched a complete game shutout.

I was very dubious when we signed him but as I said above, he could very well end up hitting around .200 and throwing out 5% of the base runners. But calling a game is something he will be able to do all season and our staff badly needed that.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I believe that using personal catchers for a particular pitcher certainly helps, but last year the Cubs has 6 different starting catchers (Barrett, Blanco, Soto, Kendall, Hill, and Bowen). Our pitching staff was pretty much consistently good all year, which struck me as odd.

Return to Chicago Cubs
