Over working Marmol?

Post#1 » by treyZz » Thu Apr 10, 2008 1:14 am

Jesus Christ does this guy ever have a day off?

He's going to be toast by July at this rate.

I know yesterday was an off day, but god damn. He's been run out there every single game it seems and was really over worked last year.

Remember he used to be a starter. He has more endurance than the average reliever.

True, but he is still a young guy and running him out there everyday has to be straining on his filthy arm.

I would not be surprised to see him end up having Tommy John down the road.

Hopefully when Howry gets his **** together -- Lou rests Marmol more often.

I wouldn't be surprised to see surgery at some point. Hardly any pitchers stay healthy for their careers and he's got a really violent delivery. He's definitely an injury risk.

And I do agree that Lou will probably overuse him. But with the lack of reliable options outside of him, it's tough to restrain from putting him out there constantly. He was around the same innings pitched as Howry and Wuertz...but he wasn't used much early in the season last year.

And yeah, it depends on Howry. He always sucks early in the year, but once he settles down and pitches like normal, it'll be another near shutdown guy to bring in.

Lou has been known to burn through pitchers.

Didn't Marmol start as a catcher? ...and his problem as a starter was his stamina...?!?

For some reason I remember those tidbits, I could be wrong.

His problem as a starter was his pitches. He only has two of them, so keeping hitters off balance for 6 innings was tough.

Ahhh yes, I remember when he tried to incorporate a curve ball and a cutter.
