I move that we keep this thread open here on the Bulls board. For one, Cubs fans are clearly distraught and need a place to vent without having to switch forums. And two, my beloved Sox will soon be swept too and I'll need a place to cry as well.

I posted on a MLB Cubs board thread. I posted here too because it hurts that much.

the thing that makes me the maddest is the fact that we didn't even show up. Im totally ok w/ losing if we play well. Then the other team is better and I can swallow that...but when we don't even show up it kills me. It feels like these losses are just so unjustified. idk...
On a sidenote...i un-friended a Sox fan from facebook cuz she was talkin too much ****.

Soriano has a full no trade clause, and right now I am wishing we can trade his ass. So STREAKY! 2 years in a row he hasn't showed up in the playoffs. He didn't do anything positive at all this series...didn't work the count, struck at horrible pitches, etc. How fitting it ended on a Soriano strike out...that about sums it up.

So bummed...
I watched or listened to every game this year.
I'm at a loss for words.

I'm not a baseball fan in general but I feel bad for Cubs fans and empathize greatly. To be let down season after season after season is such a devastating feeling. But you know, it's about time to blow up this Cubs roster IMO. Make trades, get young talent. Start all over. Because I feel like this is as far as this Cubs team will go. To the Playoffs. I also feel like you guys got jinxed when they made a deal to limit alchol during "clinch" games.

This has slid into #2 personal sports disappointment of all time, right after the Vikings 1998 NFC championship loss to the Falcons. I had to lay down in bed after that blow. This Cubs no show had me quivering too.

Of 36 active players with 100+ AB in the playoffs, Soriano ranks 36th in BA.

I'm quite pleased. This really helps take the sting out of the Sox struggles.

We agree elsewhere, but right now you suck...

From a Sox fan I really feel bad for you guys. Cubs were by far the best team in the N.L. These past 3 games made absolutely no sense. I think Tampa is just better than the Sox. But no way the Dodgers are better than the Cubs, even with Manny. Anyway, take a break from it all and go get 'em next year. I may be feeling your pain come tomorrow.

Yeah it hurts so bad it's hard being a Cubs fan because you know this going to happen.

Maybe it's corny, my grandfather worked in Chicago for Sears. When I was a little 11 year old kid, my grandparents took me on a trip down here from Minneapolis, and took me to a Cubs game at Wrigley. The experience cemented me as a Cubs fan. (The metrodome really really sucks as a place to watch baseball games). And now I'm in Chicago feeling more naturally as a fan, but at the same time heartbroken. I actually feel way more strongly about the Cubs than the Bulls. I guess Cubs fans are meant to suffer...

You know I've been a Cub fan all of my life. I grew up watching them on WGN superstation all of the time. As I grew into adulthood, I gradually lost interest, because of how mediocre or poor they always were with a couple decent years (1998, etc.), because of how little true competition there is in baseball, and because of how many fat, overpaid, prima donna idiot players there are. Oh and, of course, how long and often boring games are to watch.
So now that I'm quite busy all of the time, I've often thought that my interest would fire back up when it really couted, like this year with a good regular season team. However, I couldn't be bothered/interested enough to watch a single pitch, I believe, of the series. Tonight, if it was game three in the evening, I watched the movie Serpico for the first time. Great movie.
Now that I've found out they get swept, I feel not only totally indifferent, but actually happy that I didn't waste my time and energy getting excited about them. I guess I'm not really much of a Cubs fan anymore, although it's really the sport and not the team that has lost me. I'm still a VERY avid Bulls and Bears fan.
So, while I feel for all of you Cubs fans tonight, I can honestly say for the first time in my life that I don't give a damn about the Cubs and couldn't feel more free. If you can break away, do it. And never look back.

I just got home from a party with the wife-- woo hoo for us, 2:27 AM. I was lucky enough to have missed the entire Cubs debacle, and I'm a life-long, die-hard fan.
But you all know where this is going. We have to lock Cubs and Sox (and Bears) related threads and direct them where they belong:
viewforum.php?f=99The regulars there would love to have your company in commiseration. As for me, I'm off to bed.

I think the 100 years really does weigh over this team. I never really believed it much, but you could see how the whole team just tightened up and played like crap.
