OT: Thoughts on Cory Provus

A hated Brewer fan here -- you guys may have seen that the Brew Crew hired Provus, formally of WGN, to call games with Bob Uecker. I read that he did one inning a game and that he handled the pre and post game shows for the Cubbies. Just wanted to get some thoughts from you guys as to whether he is a fairly good/entertaining announcer or if he's a stick-to-the-books/boring type announcer?

Its kinda hard to tell. I think it was only a few years ago that the Cubs switched up their radio game production. I believe they use to do the 'old timer' style Cubs intro, which they no longer do, and back then it was Andy Mazer. Provus is good, nothing spectacular, and nothing I can remember that was bad, so thats all good things.
Another thing to note with WGN cubs broadcasts is that it takes on a retro style flavor. Pat Hughes and Ron Santo do a light hearted, early 1900's style delivery. At least thats what they aim for, and with Ron's cheering and ridiculous homerism, its quite amusing at times.

Although I miss the Cubs retro intro song at the beginning of radio broadcast, I never saw a difference with Mazer and Cory, both were solid enough that I didn't notice a drop in broadcast quality. I think you guys are going to like him.

FYI, he takes over for Santo I believe, so Ronny can take a piss...

Cory Provus is a pretty decent announcer from what I heard from him. He has the voice to be a good play by play man for any team. However I liked Andy Mazur much more for some reason.
