Can the Cubs be fixed?

Post#1 » by Ruben Douglas » Sun Jun 28, 2009 4:33 am

I'm not going to mention all the bad moves, we all know them. But can the Cubs be fixed right now?

We all know the hitting and relief pitching is horrendous.

One quick way to help was to acquire DeRosa...he's obviously sleeping with the enemy now.

So what, within reason, can be done to save the Cubs. Because I don't see how this can be fixed unless A-Ram can have a Viagra effect on the Cubs batting and Hendry can suddenly trade for 3 RP to replace a piss poor Heilman, Marmol, Gregg combo.

As far as I'm concerned, it may honestly be time to start blowing up this team a little bit at a time...and I'd start by firing Hendry and bringing in Steve Stone at GM.

I predicted this team to be horrible this year when everyone doubted me... and when i got to the point where i said let's blow this team up and start over.. it wasn't pretty.. but now it's looking like it's going to come to that.. first off i hope the new owner will give Jim Hendry the boot.. he's obviously the biggest cubs problem as of right now.. and he needs to be fired ASAP.. The Florida Marlins formula for just trading everybody for future star minor leaguers is looking awfully good right now.

That would be stupid. We are only 3.5 games out in the wildcard and central. The Marlins formula hasn't got them much of anywhere. They haven't even gotten to the playoffs for a couple of years. We just need to get Rammy and make a couple of moves and we should be ok. We are one game below .500 not 15 games below .500.

I'm not saying the Cubs cannot come back from this. But I think it's unlikely at this point, unfortunately. Just my opinion.

What's more unfortunate is that if the Cubs do want to try to blow it up it will be very unlikely. They are stuck with Soriano, Bradley, Fukudome, and Lee. That's a large chunk of change. You don't want to trade Marmol or Soto...and it seems like Hendry has a hard on for Theriot.

So that pretty much leaves the Starting Pitching. So if the Cubs do want to make some trades it will have to be little by little to blow up the team and Hendry will have to get creative.

What I should've said in the first post is this, "Can the Cubs be fixed, or do they have to trade the pieces they do have while riding out the terrible contracts Hendry has given out?"

Derrek is playing great right now. He's signed through 2010 and I would like to see what Hendry could get for him at this point. Sell high.

Bradley will at some point start hitting. Whether that be this year is still a question.

Soriano, ugh.

We still have a good chance at winning this division since it's pretty bad. We just have to click as a team.

Just blow this team up. This team won't win a World Series together it's quite obvious. Blow this team up (with the exception of Soriano who nobody will take) and start over.

exactly! If we cant win it all there is no point. I dont think we can blow it up. Too many bad contracts and about 1 everyday cubbie with real value. What I would like to see is young players getting more chances.

I think the only guys we are stuck with are Soriano and Dempster. Maybe Bradley. The rest of the guys can easily be moved for minor leaguers. Maybe not top minor leaguers but solid ones.

Lee could be moved but remember that he has a pesky no trade clause. The only way he would probably agree to a trade is if everyone else got moved.
