With a shoulder strain. Wonder what Jimbo will do.

this could be a devastating blow. so far the pitching has been incredible. dempster is returning and he needs to really step up. both marshall and wells have been insanely good. but this is a tough one...

It's not official yet but would be bad if so.

The Cubs placed starting pitcher Ted Lilly on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of inflammation in the left shoulder.

And while he rests his shoulder, he'll undergo arthroscopic surgery on his sore knee, as well.

Lilly already was scheduled to miss Saturday's start against the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field because of the shoulder soreness. But MRI exam results showed no major damage, only tendinitis.

He is expected to miss about four starts, which means a possible return sometime in middle to late August.

Time to make a trade.

I don't think this loss forces us to make a move for a SP. The rest of our staff can handle Lilly's time off. But we do need to add another bat or bullpen arm.
