I would be stunned if Houston passed on Green.

They need a scorer. Badly.

Why the Cavaliers take Jalen Suggs: .The Cavs have taken point guards in two out of the past three drafts and a wing in last year’s draft. So it’s logical that they would love to see Mobley be available to them here. Whether they would trade up to 2 to secure him is another story. But if Houston selects Mobley, as we are projecting, then the pick likely comes down to one of the Jalen’s. Suggs is seen as the safer pick as he is viewed as being more focused, and having less off court concerns. He has proven himself as a consummate team player and shown the ability to elevate the play of teammates. Green is the upside pick, but may require a team with a stronger cultural framework in place. Job security could be the final factor that tips the scales in Suggs favor. Whether Cavs GM Koby Altman feels confident enough to swing for the fences on a riskier pick like Green, instead of taking a player seen as more of a sure bet remains to be seen.

They criticized his motor, and whether his defense would translate at the NBA level. They commend his IQ and passing as well.

Essentially nitpicking. There's no question someone with his mobility, length, height, IQ, and discipline is going to "translate" defensively. The question is how good.

As for the motor critique, USC is kind of a slow deliberate team. They don't really run or have playmaking guards so the few times he does run the floor hard he rarely gets the ball. On defense, he's positionally very sound and usually in the right position to just get a hand up so it doesn't look like he's doing anything crazy.

It is nitpicking for sure, but I enjoyed the listen. I find many draft related podcasts mostly praise the top 4 prospects, and doesn't talk about their potential weaknesses enough. So this is a good change.

He's had a much greater spotlight than the other prospects because his high school basketball days and his personality...I think there is a concern Green might start living the Tyler Herro lifestyle...letting the celebrity and fame interfere with the growth as a basketball player.

I think the draft order is Mobley, kaminga, Barnes in that order. I do think we’re actively trying to get another lottery pick. I don’t see why we’re interviewing a bunch of guys who won’t go 4th unless we’re getting another pick or trading down.

Was this confirmed recently somewhere?

I had read that Sengun was 6 foot 9 with shoes as well (6 foot 7.75 inches barefoot), a couple of months ago on my Twitter Feed. I cannot remember the source, or otherwise I would post a link here.

However, another poster told me that link was a probably an old one, and he has grown an inch or so. It would help if we had accurate measurements as well on the guy.

I can understand that. He's a California kid so he's very much already born into that though. I've already convinced myself there's no chance we get green but the only way I see the cavs passing on him is if he just doesn't workout or give them any interviews. Which isn't hard to see considering it's Cleveland

Taking Suggs is interesting;

Garland looked like a proper PG last season and taking Suggs likely makes a cheaper Garland available to trade (2y left on his rookie deal). If you feel Sexton is the real deal at the two then you throw him his massive extension prior to the extension deadline and you have him and Allen on the books long term for somewhere between 40-50m a season.

If they feel that those are the guys then Suggs may be a logical fit;
I just assumed moving Sexton before the extension for some draft capital and pairing Garland and Green for two years to evaluate on rookie deals what they had was logical but Altman clearly knows his team better than me.

I have anxiety around Mobley at #4 and while I know it's good fortune to get him, can someone ease my anxiety that he isn't the level of the bigs taken top 5 in the last 5 drafts?

Wiseman
JJJ
Ayton*
Jonathon Isaac
Marvin Bagley
Zion*

That's a 2/6 or 33% success rate in terms of star power (and not franchise players just star power) in the top 5.

PG's in that same time period:

Trae
Luka
Ja Morant
De'Aron Fox
Lonzo
Lamello

5/6 are stars, 4/6 (I'm including Ja and maybe LaMelo) are possible franchise guys.

Every team has a big board of ranked prospects from 1- X in case random offers come in and they can evaluate based on who's available in the draft. There could be a player that's falling that the team ranks high and they buy a pick to draft him. You dont stop doing your due diligence based on where you are picking. That's being lazy. It's the same thing every year, this year is no different.
