Joe Flynn: No. Could the Knicks compete for a playoff spot? Absolutely. They have talent and depth. They have a handful of young players who seem primed for a breakout. But this is still Tom Thibodeau’s team, sadly. Thibs helped the Knicks to the playoffs when he could play an All-NBA-level Julius Randle 40 minutes a night and got 6MOY-level contributions out of Derrick Rose. This current roster, however, is built on youth and depth — two ideals that are anathema to Thibs. I don’t trust Randle to bounce back, and I don’t trust Thibs to pivot to an ascendant Obi Toppin. Now, if the front office trades Randle and forces Thibs’ hand, that’s another story.

From this article on whether the Knicks are a playoff team now, this response was on point. We do have youth and depth now, but Randle is unreliable and selfish and Thibs doesn’t know how to manage the depth we have.
I still think replacing Thibs would be an even more beneficial move than trading Randle which I want too of course.Joe Flynn: No. Could the Knicks compete for a playoff spot? Absolutely. I hate these stories where they pit the Knicks FO against the coach. If Thibs effs up, FO should be first to blame. If they don't want the blame, they should fix their problem now, not later. If Thibs plays Randle 40 minutes a game and denigrates the youth while doing so, while allowing Randle to walk all over him, we can't say we didn't foresee it.

According to some very intelligent posters though, literally zero other teams would even give RJ 20 minutes a game.

You're betting on the personality and the work ethic more than anything. Other teams would definitely take that bet 100%

Yea Katz said the majority of other executives would do 25m per year. That’s what I’m anticipating… approx 5yrs/125m

That’s a really low bar.
