Even Bill Simmons liked the signing, the people who hate it are simply trying to generate views.

I'm digging our starting lineup right now if Randle can get his mind right and his jumper back.
I don't know if Grimes or Reddish will outplay Fournier to warrant a starting position. Also, if Rose is healthy, then Grimes and Reddish will be fighting it out to back up the wing spot off the bench.

The trick to our starting lineup will be how well RJ and Randle can adjust to playing off the ball. We have to assume Brunson will handle the ball most of the time, as our designated point guard / highest assist to turnover ratio player / highest paid player. Both RJ and Randle struggled when Kemba was on the floor, Randle in particular, so he's got to really figure that out. If Randle accepts a role as primarily a rebounder and switch defender at his position, and focuses on being more of a finisher on offense, he'll be a nice fit. If not, he might look worse than last year.

This could go many different ways from very well to a disaster and many shades of variation in between.
They probably will be inconsistent and .500 and everyone involved has positive and negative contributions.
Ultimately, though, Knicks fans will have their own perceptions of 'reality' regardless of what it really is.

If you hate the contract that’s one thing. But anyone that thinks Jalen is going to be a bust might as well shout “do not take me seriously, because I’m admitting I haven’t watched any Mav’s games except highlights on ESPN, I just get all my awful takes off miserable losers on Twitter.”

Except Kemba was past his prime and his game relied strictly on being a ball dominant shooter. So of course other guys struggled around him.
Brunson can literally get to any of his spots in the paint and get to the basket at will. I don’t think people realize how much that will open up the offense, especially when he’s able to break defenses down and get RJ and Randle easier looks as a result. The problem with Randle and RJ is that they worked too hard to get their shots off. Their lives are about to get easier having a legit starting point guard on the team for once. This whole narrative of whether Randle and RJ are going to be able to play off the ball is so overblown. I’m more concerned about Fournier as he is the real issue in the starting lineup due to being a defensive liability.
Back during the 20-21 season, the team looked so much better when Rose was in the lineup due to how he was able to break down defenses and score in the paint. I expect Jalen to have the same impact.

This right here. Brunson isn’t going to “bust”. His game isn’t flash it’s fundamentals.

I need to see if thibs is willing to do what’s best for the team and not start fourneir and possibly even randle IF the below lineup is struggling due to fit
Brunson
Fournier
RJ
Randle
Mitch

Comparing Brunson to Simons based on their per-36 production when one played with Luka and the other was given the keys after Dame's injury is a good way to give shite analysis.
Brunson is demonstrably an above-average starter in the NBA, and his salary reflects where he ranks currently among NBA point guards. He might in fact be undervalued in a couple of years.
Now, does the signing fit into a broader sense of direction from the Knicks? Maybe not. But if the Knicks fail, it's highly unlikely it will be because of this signing.

The Simons stuff doesn't even make sense to me, because the Blazers were going to match any offer for him, the only player we had a realistic chance of getting is the guy we got, and he's better than people give him credit for.
When he was killing it in the playoffs he was the man, when he's signed to us he automatically became trash to some of these writers.

Clowns on twitter crapping on the deal. Maybe go do some research on the player and how he can impact this point guard less team. Nah too hard to do. Fuq the haters.

The guy isn’t using situational stats at all, lazy reporting. Why wouldn’t you look at Brunson when he’s playing without the highest usage player in the NBA as a better indicator of his expectations in NY?
Brunson contract is fine, Mitch contract is the one that worries me.

I'm not reading many articles at the moment/recently so I haven't seen the Brunson hate. But if it exists is extremely misguided. I'm pretty sure I watched every Mavs game last year, maybe missed one or two at the end of the regular season. Brunson's clearly an extremely good player. Frankly, $26m a year for four years is a bargain. He's probably more deserving of s max deal than Garland for example.
