Sorry wasn't sure how else to make sure someone catches my post/cry for help lol but I'm just copying a link to an image I'd like to use as my av but for some reason seems like I can't use the link to change it, maybe you could help me out??

This should work. Looks like it it already sized to 100 x 100. But can always just make sure and type 100 x 100 pixels on the avatar page.

Use Imgur to upload at 100 x 100. Right click and paste link on whatever you upload from Imgur.

Yeah this avatar feature for this site has fallen off the planet.
