It’s not like they are restructuring their salary so it’s not the same. Nobody says GMs don’t fulfill their end of the contract when the player is moved whenever front office feels like moving them so players demanding trades is fine

That's not the same thing and not how contracts work.

Players have complete control over their destination... as a free agent. They can choose to go play wherever they want while they're not under contract. The problem or "scheme" is when a player accepts a SuperMax payout from the team that drafted them (knowing good and well they have no desire to play there), then demand a trade a year later and take themselves and their max money where they really wanted to go all along. In essence, they sign the contract under false pretense.

The loophole is the fault of the league. They need to completely restructure things within the next CBA so that players don't have to "pretend" they are staying with a team just to get max money -- then force a trade later to where they would have gone in the first place if they could have also gotten the big payday.

Players can also take some responsibility and not throw a tantrum and threaten to become a locker room "cancer" unless they get their way and get traded where they want. Otherwise (again), contracts are not worth the paper they're written on.

I would say HEZI is full of it for a slightly different reason. A GM is not voiding the contract when they trade a player, and a player can always advocate for a no trade clause and a trade kicker when they sign. A team pays a player to PLAY. A player signs with a team to play, but to GET PAID. If a player refuses to play, they are not doing what they are paid to do. The comparison would be like if the Knicks told Fournier "hey we don't think you are worth this money now, so we are going to just not pay you."

League management has to lay the hammer.

Who is talking about not playing besides you? We are talking about demanding a trade. Players get fined for not showing up to play. Players don’t just not play that’s why you see these demands in the off-season and rarely ever in the middle of a season.

Those Ivey highlights are so painful to watch. Big shame we’ll never have a guard as dynamic as him

Jaden ivey is gonna be damn good. That man’s change of direction and acceleration is Wild.
Wish we had been able to make the move to go get him.

I'd love to know what the price actually was to get it done. If it even got to that point. It sounds like Detroit didn't even want to negotiate

Ya looks like If we were gonna get him it had to be a deal with the kings. I’m just gonna stick with blaming thibs.
If he wasn’t a trash coach and just played the kids we either are higher in the lotto cause we did worse and it’s either for kings to swap down 2-4 spots. Or the kids show actual value and the kings do a swap because they aren’t a mustery and showed potential.

Instead I watched Alec burks taj Gibson Fournier play meaningful minutes.

Fml I wanted ivey. Shouldn’t have watched his highlights

There’s a parallel dimension where the knicks have all 3. Must be nice to be a fan there.

So then we are in agreement that players can't really demand a trade with several years on their contract

Agreed but the argument at the end of the day will be that we never had a chance at Ivey so we should only be criticized for the guys at and after the 11th pick.

So with that being said, if Duren ends up being better than Mitch - which I think he will be - it will be another massive failure.

It’s just too hard to trade up from #11 to the top when it’s a good draft at the top. The teams at the top had no reason to trade back that far. I think we tried, but never thought we would pull it off. If anything we messed up by not tanking/rebuilding or messed up trading out of the 1st round.

I feel like we honestly did. This FO was just not willing to take the short-term pain needed to get a talent like Ivey or Luka or Trae, etc. You can't throw a bunch of shat together with the 11th pick and think you can get the 4th.

The problem is, I don't think these guys are smart enough to rebuild the other way. There are teams that can rebuild on the fly without ever getting a lotto pick, like the Rockets, but those teams were run by guys like Morey. Then again, the guys rebuilding through getting a ton of strong lotto picks, like Detroit and OKC, also seem a lot smarter than our guys.
