I think it's obvious the Nets are in shambles. They just came off getting swept in the first round and now both of the nutjobs they surrendered their franchise to have demanded trades in the same offseason. And not only are they not getting any good offers for them, but now they're getting rejected in their own proposals lol.

Ben Simmons is bad luck.

If you want to read the situation of team building right now
https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/insider/story/_/id/34245668
Already mentioned this months ago. This is why team building is better to be planned (not always but often) as short cycles intervals of boom and bust.

Only 3 players from the 2014 NBA Draft are with the team that drafted them:
Nikola Jokić
Joel Embiid
Marcus Smart
Nikola Jokić

The Knicks are essentially competing against themselves, and should offer no more than one pick more than anyone else. Even with Mitchell, they aren't close to seriously competing, and need to keep some ammunition to add more players. Gutting their cupboard will only ensure they are a perennial 4-6 seed.
And the Pels would be foolish to go all in right now, as they are building a really good thing there, especially if Zion is the real deal and can stay healthy.
I mean, once the price gets really reasonable/favorable, every team will happily swoop in and take the all-time great HOF guy. I agree the Pels probably shouldn't go for it now, but they're going to have the best offer out there to win the KD sweepstakes and it is a competition in which only one team can win. I also think the Pels (or any other team) would be motivated to pay out now so that KD doesn't talk himself back into BKN, which imo could well happen.
They have no leverage whatsoever beyond refusing what the Nets are offering, and I don't think Ingram, Nance, and a couple 1sts is that rough for KD. It's very likely they'd end up with a better team over the next 4 years, and after that who knows if BI would be around or anything anyway.

Okay, and what happens when diva Durant decides he doesn't want to play for NO? The Pels have a nice young team with the potential to be very good if not better. Durant doesn't make them a championship caliber team, which is all Durant is interested in at this point - I doubt he is looking to wait 3-4 years for a real shot at winning.

No point in talking about a scenario in which Durant is going there kicking and screaming, obviously a bad idea and isn’t going to end well. Even if KD agreed to a trade in that scenario, Pells would have no chance of landing him if they can only offer a price that’s assuming he’ll be unhappy and blow things up, other teams offers would destroy their offer and they shouldn’t bother engaging in any conversations if that’s the assumption.
You’re maybe moving the goal posts there though, from ‘teams should make use of the leverage created by players demanding to be traded’ to ‘teams shouldn’t ever trade for divas.’

Actually I'm not, because I referred only to Durant, not divas plural. He is an entity unto himself, or maybe in a very, very select group whose movement changes the entire league landscape with regard to contenders.
I mean, how many players can demand a trade in the middle (or beginning) of a max contract, but then want to determine not only where they go but the parameters of the return a team can get?

I hope they ask for Tatum and Smart just as the starting point of a package, and about 3-4 1sts as well. If BRK doesn't demand a king's ransom from a division opponent, they are fools.

Can’t believe Brooklyn said no to Jaylen. You’re not getting better than that.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Watford/Barlow/Walker
Embiid/Drummond/Bona/Broome

True, although they do want him. They just want him and Smart lol. Morey is probably advising Sean.ProcessDoctor wrote:Can’t believe Brooklyn said no to Jaylen. You’re not getting better than that.

Ben, Jaylen, and Smart isn't a bad team...
Add Joe Harris, Seth Curry, Nic Claxton. I don't know what the plans are for Kyrie, but that team would probably give us trouble. A team with more defined roles and heavy emphasis on defense is tough. With Curry and Harris being great compliments to Ben and no one to really take shares out of Jaylen's ISOs, it's a very good team. Two DPOY contenders.
Boston would also become a major pain in the ass for us too.

Who would you be more enamored with as the main piece in a similar package: Brown or Ingram?

If I’m Jaylen Brown, I’m demanding a trade too lol. This dude does nothing but get better yet constantly gets dangled in trades. Tatum is “the franchise” but Jaylen put his ass in a backpack and carried him in game 6 of the finals.

I’d take Brown and it’s not even close. Browns also a good defender.

Celts haven’t done their “all in” move, they have a good shot with that in KD.
I’d pull the trigger if Nets asks for Marcus Smart. Did Celts shutdown Steph or Poole with Smart? Once you have KD-Tatum-Al-Timelord, you’d have enough length, switchability and rim protection to lockdown any team
