Now of course Dinwiddie is not good enough to start for us and DFS is a good player but not worth losing our starting PG to acquire. But then I read Utah is shopping Conley. So what about a deal where we get Conley and DFS, plus maybe a second from Dallas. Dinwiddie and draft capital to Utah from Dallas, and Utah gets Dlo. Fanspo says it works, and we only go up 3 mil. Meanwhile DFS has 4 years of team control on a good contract and Conley has this year plus next year, at which point we move him with someone or something else to upgrade the PG again.
Trade looks like
Timberwolves out: Dlo, Timberwolves in: Mike Conley, Dorian Finney Smith, future Dallas second
Dallas out: Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney Smith, future 2nd, plus other draft picks to Utah (not sure what Utah needs for Conley, but he is 34 and making 25 mil so shouldn’t be that expensive,) Dallas in: Dlo
Utah out: Conley, Utah in: Spencer Dinwiddie and draft capital.
The biggest problem I have with this and the reason I almost didn’t post it is that Conley is older and likely to decline. We would need to move him in a year or two for a younger starting PG and won’t have a lot of picks to make it work. But, at that point maybe we attach MCD or DFS and get a significant upgrade. This idea is obviously still very raw and I am throwing out their for opinions and feedback.
I think Conley ends up in Dallas.
