which will give the lakers a 5-4 lead over the spurs. Lakers also had 2 back to back chips, that the Spurs never did even with pretty much the same core..

Plus, 8 finals appearances for the lakers over 5 for the spurs. Don’t forget Magic’s last finals appearance was in 91.

Sorry but the bubble and the lockout are two completely different things. You can't compare completely ending the NBA season only to have some Disney camp playoffs.

Also the spurs made 6 finals, not 5. The spurs won more games in total over this time frame (225 regular season games). Spurs made the playoffs 29 times vs 24 for the lakers. Spurs lost in the conference finals 5 times vs the lakers 1. Lost in the simi finals 9 times vs 7.

You can certainly choose the lakers here based on the extra title and a few more finals, but the spurs have certainly had more success in terms of simply winning games and being competitive more consistently.

I know the Spurs went to 6 finals. I only said 5 as a hypothetical answer to what the other poster said that the bubble title didn’t count, thus my counter was the 99 lockout season shouldn’t count either. So instead of 9 NBA finals for the lakers, let’s go with 8. While instead of 6 finals for the Spurs, let’s bring it down to 5.

It’s silly I understand . But he started it. Ha ha

The bubble and the lockout have zero to do with each other. Of course the bubble won't ever be seen the same as any other title. Fans universally agreed on that before the bubble even started.

Why are they different ?

The 99 lockout season was 3 months delayed..

Only had 50 games for the regular season. Had fewer games in the playoffs overall.

The 2020 bubble season had teams playing 70 plus games for the regular season, granted that there was several months in between. But that should be same as the 3 months taken out of the 99 season.

& the 2020 playoffs had more games than the 99 playoffs.. if you ask me, they’re more or less the same .. if you’re going to diss the 2020 title, then do the same for the 99 and even the 2011 lockout season ring of the Heat….

Are you complaining about the nba using a 5 game format for the first round?

And the 2020 season ended with no playoffs. The year was over and everyone went home. Then the NBA had what we'll forever coin "Oh god, we want money, lets just have a fun tourney to make our money back, bubble".

No way, and I freaking love GSW. It's gotta be Lakers or Celtics, they got the most championships by far throughout the years.

2020 had no playoffs???

where the Clippers fabulously flamed out after being up 3-1. & multiple digits leads in the last 3 closeout games.. causing coach doc rivers to be fired... I guess that didnt happen either..

As far as I'm concerned, that season ended when they actually ended the season. You're welcome to include the mickey mouse games if you want, but it remains the worst basketball we've ever seen in a "playoffs" because the players mostly didn't take it seriously and they were rusty after months off from not playing and the joke warm up time they received before it started out.

I honestly believe that if the Lakers never left Minneapolis they wouldn’t have half the rings they do now. Which is why I don’t wanna crown them as GOAT franchise.

Dominant teams, plus a FA destination because of its history. If you eliminated/vacated the Lakers from the NBA, the history of the association would be Thanos' snapped.

I would argue that LA has a history of attraction primarily because of location which has then given it a successful history (making it somewhat of a self-fulfilling prophecy). I suspect (and I could be wrong) that the Minneapolis Lakers may not have had the same success attracting talent.

Its really hard to handicap a franchise due to location (and lord knows I want to)

It's okay, sometimes we all have to do thing we don't want to. Crown us. *pats head, pat pat*

Depends on the question. If it is who is the GOAT franchise you shouldn't consider location. If it is which franchise accomplished the most considering degree of difficulty you must consider location.
