The kid Jovic wasn’t lying when he was telling everyone he’s a true PG lol. Looking like Toni Kukoc out here

Miami ends at 18 for 52 from the arc, .346 3pt% and 1.04 points per shot, better than expected by the backups. The 3pt shot, the great equalizer.

Highsmith is actually signed already. Not a SXF player or 2-way. He becomes guaranteed in January for the full season.

Yup and for pennies. He has his roster spot on lock.

I didn't see but AirP. already answered that one for eddie. What impressed me the most was how cool we were at the end. Not bad at all. I did not expect to win when I saw the list of everyone sitting. Duncan Robinson was fire tonight, but he had a lot of help.

Cain looking great out there last two games. Feel like he can bring some of the athletic vertical play we've been missing from the wing since DJJ left.

Like what I'm seeing from Jovic, not sure he's ready to be a starter but I'd really like him to get some bench minutes. I like the way him and Duncan have been playing off each other.

Garretts offense has been non existent but the end of this game showed the value he has as a player. He makes some game changing defensive plays. He had a lot of dirty work plays that helped win the game late.

It's going to be a shame with all the guys on our roster who deserve some run in the bench unit. Going to be hard for everyone to get the minutes they deserve.

Everyone been worried about the PF position being our weak point but I think between Martin, Highsmith, Jovic, Cain and mixing in minutes with Bam/Jimmy playing there some I think we'll have enough.

I really think Jović should be in Sioux Falls getting 35 minutes per game, building up muscle, and coming into the team after the deadline. He needs experience and won't get it as the 12th or 13th man. I respect the other opinions here though. He is fun.

Im in agreement he looks like someone who can grow exponentially with heavy reps. He needs to be putting in heavy load and reps, we could be reaping the results after the deadline like you said.

A lot of new guys that I am not familiar with. How many open spots do we have and who do we expect to make the team?

Cain has a 2 way locked up for sure. We aren’t letting him go, and if he’s smart, he’ll stick.

We have 14 roster players and two 2-way contracts. They are (listed in previous years of experience):

Haslem (19), Lowry (16), Butler (11), Dipo (9), Dedmon (9), Bam (5), Duncan Robinson (4), Caleb Martin (3), Tyler Herro (3), Max Strus (3), Gabe Vincent (3), Haywood Highsmith (2), Omer Yurtseven (1), and the rookie Nikola Jović

2-ways: Marcus Garrett (1) & Darius Days (rookie)

Exhibit 10: Dru Smith, Jamal Cain, Jamaree Bouyea, Orlando Robinson (ALL rookies)

At the end of training camp all Exhibit 10 players will be waived (they receive $50000... not part of the cap) and likely picked up by Sioux Falls on G-League contracts, which pay $37,000 (a lot more money in Sioux Falls than in Miami.)

We also have an open roster space but are only $162,830 under the luxury tax. The rookie minimum contract is $1,017,781. The season tips off on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022, and conclude on Sunday, April 9, 2023. That's 174 days. The daily rate, therefore, is about $5849. Therefore, the Heat can pay a minimum rookie contract for 27 days as a standard player.

Here are some other key dates:

Jan. 20: All two-way contracts are guaranteed for the remainder of the season.
Feb. 9: NBA Trade Deadline (3 p.m. ET)
Feb. 17-19: NBA All-Star 2023 (Salt Lake City, UT)
Feb. 17-22: NBA All-Star break
March 1: Playoff Eligibility Waiver Deadline
March 25: NBA G League regular season ends
March 28: NBA G League Playoffs 2023 begin
April 9: NBA regular season ends
April 10: Rosters set for NBA Playoffs 2023 (3 p.m. ET)

For comparison, a veteran minimum deal pays $10552 per day. That's 15 days. Since playoff eligibility waiver happens on March 1 (41 days before the end of the season), the Heat cannot pay a veteran a full salary waived at that time, even when considering the number of days to clear waivers.

I like the Bouyea kid over Garrett too. Days is barely even getting clock.

Cains locked in 1 of the 2 ways surely, the other is between Bouyea and Smith unless I’m forgetting someone. Garrett should be done

I am not sure who is more agile. Yurt's positioning is very good, but Orlando Robinson has a longer wingspan by four inches. In any case, though, Yurtseven is fully guaranteed, and Orlando Robinson is on an exhibit 10 and can sign for any NBA team once he is waived. Dru Smith too. With Darius Days, Jamal Cain, and Marcus Garrett competing for two 2-ways, Miami has a decision to make. Darius Days is also a good player, and Garrett has excellent defense.
