I soured a bit on Zumoff his last couple years. He became a big time Simmons apologist who would openly snark the fans during the broadcast.

Wasn’t the hill to die on.

The Simmons Stockholm syndrome was awful from the fans up to even Zumoff. Simmons was sold to us before the draft as a future superstar. Our franchise has been so desperate to have one, that we accepted and placed him on a pedestal immediately. There was pride in having him and Embiid. The thing is, Embiid begun to prove himself from his very fiirst NBA game, and continued to progress each and every season to become the MVP caliber player he is today. Simmons, became an All-Star, proved .. well that he's a good NBA player, and then thought that was enough to sit on for the rest of his career. Didn't sniff becoming a true superstar because he folded in the Playoffs in 3 postseasons.

It only took two playoff series over the course of 12 months for me personally to want to move on. 2018 was the warning, 2019 was the confirmation, and 2021 was what it took to truly reverse the brainwashing from the ball-washing Redditors who always believed Simmons was "a jumpshot away". Imagine if he played in the bubble playoffs. Was he really even hurt? I just remember him announcing his professional video gamer deal shortly after the Celtics swept us in 2020. What a guy.

And Kate isn't as bad as some people think either. I never thought Zumoff belonged with Merrill Reese or Harry Kalas. He was an above average commentator but he never seemed serious to me and always came off a little corny. I think Katie is a worse version of Zumoff. But a worse version of Zumoff should be good enough for Sixers fans who thought Zu could do no wrong.

I'll take her over someone like Tom McCarthy. I'd be happy if they replaced her but I'm fine listening to her call the games next year. Not exactly a ringing endorsement but she doesn't make the game unwatchable in the way Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy do.

Jackson is a hideous analyst, and while I'm not a fan of Van Gundy he isn't nearly on that level of bad. Breen makes the broadcast watchable because he's about as good as there is.

Two problems with Alaa - his knowledge of the game hasn't progressed beyond his playing days, so he makes up for it by being a clownish homer.

McCarthy is a bad comp because he's just flat out bland, like milquetoast. Kate would be okay if she would cut down the small talk and laughing, stop involving herself and Alaa in the broadcast and just call the game, and not treat every moment like it's a game winning 3 pointer at the buzzer. Tone down the screaming and silly nicknames. Unfortunately, that pretty much describes what she is as a product of the ESPN school.

Cue Sixerscan's commentary of my comment ...........

Lol I’ll comment on whatever I want. Pretty boring take, TMac level.

Believing in the Ben Simmons hype was the biggest reason why the process has failed so far.

If we knew back in 2018 than Ben won’t improve and he’ll just be a poor man’a version of Draymond Green, I do think we have a good chance to have one championship so far.

To start, trade Ben for Kawhi. Then have Kawhi, Jimmy and Embiid in 2018-2019 season.

I’ll even say that Jimmy would still be here if we didn’t have Ben. But I’d rather have 33 year old Harden than 33 year old Jimmy.

If we knew back it back in 2016, we could had Brandon Ingram right now.

The only reason why people dont put blame on Ben is because most are part of the ones who bought into the hype.

It’s just the nature of being a fan in sports. It’s more about tribalism (being committed to a side and betting that it will win against others with risk of humiliation) and less about rationality. And thats where the fun is, and i wouldnt want to take it away. So I also can’t blame zumoff, because Im also a victim of this. Not with Ben, but with other ex-sixers.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

I welcome your comments, but just once it would be interesting for you to point out Kate's positive qualities as a PBP announcer. You clearly feel a need to take issue with my opinions, so let's hear why you feel so strongly about it. Or is it just virtue signaling?

It's a huge reason, but Silver deciding to step in and foist the Colangelos on us is the primary reason the Process failed, because it began the domino effect of bad management hires and horrible and wasteful decision making that squandered the war chest of assets Hinkie had accumulated.

Perhaps if the league had left us alone the Simmons situation would have either come to a head sooner or a way of turning him into a Draymond type player and accepting that role might have been found. Not likely, but we'll never know.

I can't rip Zu for defending Simmons, as like you said there were so many fans and media that felt the same way, and he was so loyal to the organization that he was never going to do a Merrill Reese and blast the team or any of the players.

I don’t particularly care about the announcer, as I said I just find it weird how obsessed you are with her and the whole situation and yet you didn’t find an alternative way to watch games in the months and months of the season. You have practically double the posts of anyone in this thread.

Really? I'm not totally out on James yet, but Jimmy proved he isn't slowing down. It's going to be difficult for Harden to come close to his former self. Butler nearly carried the Heat to the finals.

I didn't realize there was a quota, I'll have to watch that in the future. I'm not obsessed, but I do care about the announcers of local teams that I'm watching nearly every game. National announcers I don't care about because it's not a night in, night out deal. And I don't watch sports live, haven't since the advent of the DVR, so alternatives are limited if even possible. Not that I need to explain this to you, but just as a point of fact.

Quite frankly, I find it weird how obsessed you are with my posting in the thread - I'm not harassing another poster or using foul language. I find it weird that instead of pointing out how wonderful Kate and Alaa are and why, you instead focus on opinions different than what your own might be - I can't be sure because you never offer an opinion about the thread subject, only criticism and complaints about my opinions. Like you say to others in situations like this, just ignore the thread if it doesn't interest you.

I’m obsessed because I responded to one of your many many posts about this and then proceeded to respond to your responses to me? Does that really make sense to you?

I don’t have a strong opinion on her, I would prefer someone actually from Philly and anyone compared to Zumoff would look worse by comparison, but watching other broadcasts around the league, I think she’s fine, average, whatever, which is why I find your strong constant negative reaction to her so weird. Like ok you don’t like her you’re not alone on that but the volume here is just strange.

If you don’t care about watching games live they post every broadcast recording in the league pass archives. Let me guess there’s also a reason why you don’t want to do that.

Okay, this is getting silly, so this is my last response to you.

First, not that it's any business of yours, but I have generally watched sporting events (for 20 years or more) starting about 45 min. to an hour after they start so as to avoid announcer blather, reviews, halftime, and commercials. I can then watch a game in an hour and a half at my own pace, avoid all the garbage, and be done shortly after the game has ended. I keep current and can join the game threads here soon after the game is over. Sorry if this doesn't qualify as an acceptable method to you.

Thank you for finally expressing an opinion on the thread topic. You think she's fine, but I (and others here) find her dreadful and unwatchable - beyond that, we have nothing to discuss here. I'm not breaking any forum rules and not harassing any other member. I quite frankly don't give a rat's ass what you find weird, because I find your obsession with my posts to be incredibly bizarre. Please just make me a 'foe', and voila!, you never have to be 'subjected' to my posts again.

Have a nice weekend.

Clearly you found her watchable because you made the personal choice of watching the an entire season of games in a super specific way rather than make any number of alternative choices that would have solved your problem.

I agree this is a silly argument, I hope you find another way to watch the games that you are comfortable with.

I saw this get bumped and got excited for a brief moment that it was b/c she was being replaced. Either she has to go or Alaa has to go, they SUCK together.

PBP announcers are people who we should want to listen to, who add some flair to the game, and are people who we respect as an analyst. Does Kate meet any of these criteria?
