chances are he will never be like Giannis in terms of inside dominance. 1) he has an outside game. giannis became dominant on the inside because he had no choice, and 2) he likely doesn't have a body type that will be able to get as strong as giannis. his base will likely always be such that he will be easy to push off the block and he'll need to shoot a lot of turn around and fadeaway jumpers rather than being a guy who just bullies people in the paint.

But he so goddamn tall it doesn't matter, he just puts his arms up and he's right at the rim.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

I think he's going to be closer to KD than he is Giannis.

He's the best NBA draft prospect since I've been paying attention.

1. Victor Wembanyama
2. LeBron James
3. Tim Duncan
4. Yao Ming
5. Anthony Davis
6. Zion Williamson

I do wonder, what is the major difference between this guy and say...Bol Bol?

Or even Kristaps?

Will he simply be a better, more complete version?

you can argue a more advanced version. Where they might have set some semblance of precedence for this type of player. Vic looks to be in position to show the complete possibilities and break the mold.

Player types aren't ever new in the league but there's always levels.

start with the fact that he's even taller and longer than they are and then work your way forward from that starting point. I'd put Chet in that conversation as well - but again, he's taller and longer than him too.

and i think he's probably a rich man's version of all those guys just from a skillset standpoint as well. so yeah, similar type player, similar body type, but just better in every way and and bigger.

he has a better frame than Bol, more functional athleticism as well that'll allow him to do more things on the court more consistently

but yea, I was super high on Bol coming out for a lot of the same reasons I'm high on Wemby now, hard to find package of elite shot blocking with the ability to create and stretch offensively. Bol offered that and Wemby will not only do it but do it at a more consistent and scalable level.

it's kinda nuts how productive and efficient Bol was at Oregon. the only chink in the armor was that it was an extremely small sample size.

serious injury right off the bat certainly didn't help his cause either.

that's why i had him 2nd overall in the 2019 class (i'll take the L on that one), just absurd production even in limited sample sizes and a pretty rate skill set overall, thought he was worth the risk in what was a pretty shallow class after Zion (and Ja).

Well Wemby being as hyped as much as he is will get a lot more chances than Bol.and even more than KP.

KP had injury issues derail him and he never really had a team built around what he offers.

So Wemby as a better and healthier KP is an MVP level player IMO. I just think that he moves like Davis but is much bigger. I think he will get injured a ton if he plays inside like Davis. Ultimately I expect Wemby to be like KP offensively but better defensively.

Wembanyama is just a lot better at playing basketball than Bol Bol. Bol looks lost more often than he looks dominant. It’s like Cameron Reddish vs Kevin Durant as prospects. One is just a lot taller and longer, and way better at basketball in all ways too.

I don’t think he’s a 7’4+ Durant, but even if he was only Porzingis in terms of ball skills, he’s taller with like 6 more inches of wingspan. That’s a massive difference in size. It’s a bigger reach difference than Kristaps and Draymond Green IIRC lol.
