Don't think Wiesy's did nearly enough to stay. He got outplayed by Romeo (bigger contract) and that's saying something (also a couple of other players, one of whom was the first to get cut). I think Joe goes:

Re: 2022-2023 SEASON SPURS NEWS
Yeah as expected. Joe had chances to be the firepower 3 off the bench guy but confidence and consistency issues got in the way.
Can't defend, so if the shot isn't there... I had hoped he could be a Doug 2.0 replacement but Doug has solidified his position with off ball movement and sharp shooting in ways that Joe could never put together while with us.
Super nice guy, got married recently, got a contract from us. Never easy to cut someone and Pop says it never gets easier to do it, but he does have the skillet to hone and make a career with. Best of luck, Joe!

I mean we sort of know what we have with Romeo but where he falls short with distance shooting he at least drives and can defend. Stronger body, too. If his shot ever develops anything close to consistency, then it's an even better trade, but good for him for showing enough to stick around and hopefully develop some more.

Re: 2022-2023 SEASON SPURS NEWS
This is what I meant by us signing him. Joe gets a good amount of money and has less pressure to work on his game. And we still have great cap space:

With the Spurs announcing their roster is set for opening night, the contracts of guards Tre Jones and forward Keita Bates-Diop will be fully guaranteed for this season.

Barlow and Hall have the two two-way contract spots and will be mostly on the G-League team for development minutes and reps.
Glad Hall got a shot. Hoping to see more of Barlow as the season progresses.

Re: 2022-2023 SEASON SPURS NEWS
Teams across the league have wanted one or two unprotected first-rounders from the Lakers in all deal frameworks, which creates a battle over price and value.
The Lakers have also held preliminary discussions with the Spurs in recent weeks, sources said, showing interest in three-and-D wing Josh Richardson. The 6-foot-5 Richardson has averaged nearly 13 points to start the season, shooting 47.1 percent on 5.67 three-point attempts per game.

In recent weeks, Los Angeles engaged the San Antonio Spurs in trade talks for Josh Richardson. Richardson is a veteran on an expiring contract, so it's expected San Antonio will look to trade him during this rebuilding season.
A deal that sends Westbrook to either Indiana or San Antonio would be easier to complete, because those teams still have considerable cap space. Both the Pacers and Spurs have approximately $30 million in available cap space. That would make absorbing Westbrook's $47.1 million contract easier than a team that would have to fully match salary in a deal.

Yeah we have cap space and means to get more cap space so pick or bye!
