Why? Do they really want to pay this guy more money than they already have?

James Bouknight has shot 33.7% (34/101) overall and 22.6% (12/53) from three in 16 games this season.
He's also a negative defender to add salt to the wound.

Wouldn’t the Knicks like to bring him HOME?
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

i'd rather have pj hairston. at least pj played defense.
bouk, kai, thor, lewis - your 2021 draft class lol. you could have thrown four darts at the players drafted in the 2nd rd that year and done better.

Re: Bouk 'Em, Danno: The James Bouknight Thread
Zach Lowe, still the only national writer who seemingly pays attention to the Hornets, on Bouknight:
The James Bouknight experience
Bouknight is facing a DWI charge after his arrest last month, so anything on the court is trivial. But the Charlotte Hornets used the No. 11 pick on Bouknight in 2021, and they want to see what they have after Bouknight logged only 304 minutes last season.
The early results are not encouraging for a franchise that needs more certainty around LaMelo Ball. Three recent first-round picks -- Bouknight, Kai Jones, and Mark Williams -- barely play. Nick Richards, a second-round pick, has outplayed all three by miles. (JT Thor, the 37th pick in 2021, has shown flashes.) Miles Bridges' future is uncertain after he pleaded no contest to one felony domestic violence charge.
Bouknight has an electric first step and some unusual flourishes to his game. But his decision-making can go haywire, leaning toward shooting above all else:

That has to be a pass to Jalen McDaniels screaming down the right wing. Bouknight is shooting 33.7%. Yuck.
On defense, I'm not sure there is a more transfixed ball watcher in the league. Bouknight loses shooters all the time:
https://media.video-cdn.espn.com/gifs/mp4/Magic_3_vs_Hornets_2gif.mp4
The Hornets are 4-12 after an injury-riddled start, and should probably hunt one of the league's three worst records. Can Michael Jordan stomach that?

Re: Bouk 'Em, Danno: The James Bouknight Thread
I’ve wondered quite often if Jordan cares enough to have stomach aches anymore?
Bouknight is a train wreck…a disastrous failure of a lottery pick. His multiple screw ups with the law and bad character issues combine with nearly ZERO progress as an NBA player.

If he doesn't turn it around, he'll be our worst 1st round pick of the modern Bobcat/Hornet era. At least the other guys were role players for a while, even decent/good starters.

Ajinca?
He's taking second place away from PJ Hairston pretty quickly though, it's not looking good, and appears he's lost the opportunity to be in the rotation, even with LaMelo injured and Theo picking up a DNP.
investigate Adam Silver

Ajinca was 20th overall however and Bouknight's production has barely been higher in double the minutes this season.
I think Bouknight is still definitely in the conversation for worst ever Horncats first round draft pick.

Ajinca still managed to stick around for almost a decade. Played just under 300 career games.

Re: Bouk 'Em, Danno: The James Bouknight Thread
I wonder if the Nets would trade bouk for David Duke since bouk is from Brooklyn. That could be nice for both teams
UPDATED `10-22-2025
These are who I want with our picks in order
THEM - Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen
UNCNYC - Arthur Agee, William Gates

I don't know how Kupchak still has a job.
When I die, have Michael Jordan bury me so he can let me down one last time.

Such a shame - he has such elite burst to the rim. Everything else? Meh.

Re: Bouk 'Em, Danno: The James Bouknight Thread
I get he has sucked, but everyone is ready to write him off already is pretty funny. Remember when Bol Bol was horrible for 3 years. Remember when Jalen Smith 3rd year option was declined and everyone laughed at Suns. It is a long year and there will be plenty of minutes later in the season for Bouknight to string some nice moments together.
We are going to be bad, Bouk should be playing 25-30 mpg for the final 20 games this year.

If we are going to be just throwing minutes around I'd prefer they go to young guys that work hard and behave themselves (Kai, Williams, Richards and Maledon etc). We should not be throwing the keys to rookies that chew out their coach on the sideline and who haven't worked out how to behave like an adult yet in the real world.
There is no single attribute to Bouknight's game that indicates he can forge out a role in the NBA. He's just a guy that wants slash and chuck but at this level he doesn't have the physical attributes or handle to do it successfully.
Cons - He plays small and is slightly undersized, loose handle, can't create his own shot at this level, well below average shooter, below average passer, awful defender/ball watcher, low BBIQ, character issues.
Pros - He is an OKish rebounder for a combo guard/two guard? Has burst but no handle to make use of it? The game MIGHT slow down for him at some point???
As clueless as Kai is as a basketball player, at least he has supreme athleticism, great size and the lateral quickness to defend 4-5 and possibly 3. He also appears to work hard and not be a knucklehead unlike Bouknight.
I agree you should normally give a guy a few years before coming to strong conclusions but on the odd occassion it becomes obvious much earlier when a guy is clearly way out of his depth.
If we can get pennies on the dollar for Bouknight we should take the L and cash out. I'd be ecstatic if we managed to get any second for him and get off his salary and make him someone else's problem. He fails pretty badly both on the eye test and analytically.
