You think he will finish on a sub .500 team? Arguing he's going to do so absent an injury is the more unrealistic scenario and betrays more hating on your part than homerism on mine.

Do you think a player on a sub .500 team deserves to be in the MVP conversation? My point is not based on where the Warriors might end up, it’s on where they are right now.

His team insisted on playing a player that was the next worst paired to Curry in his entire career for the first few games and then sat the starters out for two more games. Anyone who understands the context would not be too animated about his inclusion.

You’re a homer who wants his guy in the conversation, and I get that

I've heard two actual voters commentate on their early season MVP to this point (Lowe and Pelton), and they both had it as clearly Curry. It's more than likely you just don't have a grasp on the debate.

Pretty clear who the top 3 right now is according to Vegas. It's been this top 3 for the last few weeks and now it's pretty even. After that there's a drop off.

There are many other guys who fit that description better than I. I am simply interested in seeing the best player of this generation get his due.

Thankfully the Warriors will by .500 after tonight and Curry can be discussed again ;)

Everyone is aware if any team finishes outside of the playoff picture they won't be the MVP (and highly likely not in contention without homecourt). Curry has played great up to now and deserves to be in the conversation.

Steph is ahead rn
even when their record was worse it was obvious it's a matter of time
all this - "if the season ended today" is dumb and is just means to discredit Curry haha

obviously if the Dubs finish 0.500 he doesn't get it but obviously they won't (and everyone knows it) and as of rn - he is ahead

Luka is close, Tatum is close, Giannis is close but Curry is cooking

The Warriors still have a lot of guys underperforming in a stacked west that's incredibly close to each other. You might think it's obvious but you're still just guessing at best and projecting your fantasies at worst. All we have to go off right now is that Curry is the best player in the league so far but his team is just now .500 and not even in the play-ins yet. I'm going to wait for reality to catch up before annointing him MVP.

the reality is they had a rough start with the youngsters playing abysmally and Klay being unplayable
this isn't a 0.500 team of paper, right? they just won a championship the consensus was they will contend again this season, since they kept most of their rotation and certainly their core (losing some role players hurts but it's only temporary, DDV has really played well tonight for example)

it would be shocking if the Dubs don't make the playoffs, just because they are 10th after 1/5 of the season doesn't mean much when it's obvious that A.) Klay is still playable at the very least B.) no youngsters no probs (i'm looking at you Wiseman!) C.) they have the best player of this generation with multiple good pieces around him

The "reality" is we can assume and estimate the Dubs (if healthy) would be a 50+ win team and a HCA team
like a 90% chance of that
so waiting a couple more games till they're "officialy" 6th or 4th makes little sense

by you logic guys like Lauri and Mitchell etc. are "ahead" of Steph rn because their team's is in a top seed spot rn?
that's ludicrous, isn't it?

Steph has been the best player and together with Jokic has also been the one that's added the most wins to their team i.e - "most valuable"

Doncic has been amazing, Tatum has been great and he's got the "best player best team" going for him so he is a strong candidate thus far. why is that? because eveyrone assumes the Celtics would continue to be a top seed \ or best record (and rightfully so). Giannis and Jokic are always gonna be up there but as of right now - hell yeah, it's Steph

it's okay to assume things that are likely to happen :)

if u think it's likely the Dubs will finish the season 10th or that they wont be in the "play-in" as u put it well...A bridge, a sale..ya know how that goes :)

Steph is not ahead anywhere. It's just in your minds. If you check the winner odds, Luka is leading always, with Giannis and Tatum very close. Curry/Embiid/Jokic far from those three.

Curry will not be the individual leader in statistics this year. He scores, rebounds and assists less than Doncic, he has better team than Luka, but still, they are not even in the play-in  But somehow, Curry is leading

Luka will have the best numbers, but the team must improve, and he has to increase his shooting percentages. But he is clearly the most differential player in the league for his team. Without Luka, Dallas would be one of the five worst teams in the league.

Giannis is dominating. I think he is my MVP right now. Bucks are playing well without Middleton and I think Giannis will have at the end both a great record and great statistics.

Celtics are the best team in the league, and Tatum is putting some numbers. He is playing well, both offense and defence, but as I always say, he is not the undisputed leader of the team (even though he is the best player). If Giannis and Luka drop the level, he will have quite a few options, but I doubt he will win it. Tatum is great, but he doesn't dominate as much as Giannis or Luka.

I don't think it's ludicrous at all to say guys like Mitchell and Markkanen have a better MVP case than Steph at this very moment. Does it make sense for the Warriors to get back in the saddle and make the play-offs? Of course but it's still not a certainty. I think the ludicrous part is trying to award someone for something they may or may not have do in the future regardless of how likely it is to happen.

On the topic of assuming things, you're aware that once the Warriors supporting cast is playing at the level of last year again that Curry's individual stats will also drop off again, right? There is no guarantee Curry will be able to maintain his current insane impact when he can rely more on others again. We're seeing it happen right now with Jokic, who is every bit as good as last year but doesn't have the same impact because his teammates are picking up the slack compared to last season's supporting cast. For Curry himself we also have evidence this happens as the more stacked the team becomes, the smaller Curry's production becomes.

I personally would never vote for someone who doesn't make the play-offs but it's fine if you do. I'm just wondering where all these people currently backing Steph were last year when Jokic had a stronger individual impact and a better team record with even less help than Curry has now. Not a lot of Warriors flairs hyping Jokic up back then.

Pretty meaningless to track this stuff game by game. This thread will be more interesting around February.
"Wes, Hill, Ibaka, Allen, Nwora, Brook, Pat, Ingles, Khris are all slow-mo, injury prone ... a sandcastle waiting for playoff wave to get wrecked. A castle with no long-range archers... is destined to fall. That is all I have to say."-- FOTIS

Yeah but that shouldn't matter, right? Jokic was the best individual player like Curry is now and the Nuggets have a much better record than the Warriors this season. If you didn't vote for Jokic last year, why would you support Curry now?
