The Jaylen haters should sit this thread out. The number of times they've been wrong has to be pretty humiliating. No need to continue doubling down with their vitriol.

Damn new thread but never forget when Lonzo, Westbrook, Lowry, Valuncianis, and RJ freaking Barrett were a tier ahead of Jaylen Brown after last year’s finals run!

Shouldn't be any drama or disagreement here at all tbh. Who on earth else would you rather have as the #2 besides Brown?
Doncic, KD, Giannis, Embiid, the list is pretty long.
Better yet what 1-2 punch would you rather have than Tatum and Brown? The list is pretty short.

Those are other teams' #1s. Whose #2s would you prefer? Better, let's ask which teams have 2 separate players you'd prefer, giving full weight to issues of age, health, attitude, etc.?
Easily NOT on my list of such teams are:
Knicks (duh)
Brooklyn (Irving's selfishness on and off the court)
Philly (Harden's age/health/attitude)
Washington
Charlotte (duh)
Orlando
Miami
Indiana
Chicago
Detroit
Houston
Dallas
San Antonio
Utah
Portland
Golden State (Green's age, Klay's post-injury play)
Lakers (LeBron's age)
Clippers (Kawhi's health)
Suns (CP3's age & durability)
OKC (Holmgren's timeline and unprovenness)
That's 20.
As for the other 9:
Cleveland -- all 3 of their all-stars have a case over Brown
Milwaukee -- Brown for age/health over Middleton (or Lopez)
Atlanta -- probably Brown over Murray
Minnesota -- judging those guys is difficult right now
Denver -- see Atlanta
New Orleans -- Ingram vs. Brown is close
Toronto -- I don't want to brave the wrath of Raptor fans
Memphis -- I lean to Brown over both JJJ and Bane
Sacramento -- probably Brown over both Fox and Sabonis (easier to build around if nothing else)

Oh -- I also wouldn't take Timelord over Brown because of health/durability concerns.

Jaylen Brown makes 28 million and is 46th highest paid player. None of those guys you are talking about get paid less. He is on a team friendly bargain contract and has outplayed that contract by a country mile every year. Where is the problem?
Edit: Chris Paul and DeRozan make a little less. Zion and Ja extensions kick in at 33 mil next year. Ball and Edwards still on rookie scale. Barnes, Mobley, Banchero etc. aren’t there yet….but are up and coming.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

I must have misunderstood the post. I though the was saying Jaylen is literally the best player in the league we could have next to Tatum. I agree Jaylen Brown is a top 2nd guy compared against the field in a vacuum and a large part of that, as you note, is his relative age to Tatum. If we were to start giving younger guys points for age, or stop docking points from older guys for age, Jaylen's edge would not be as pronounced.

And unrealistic. Hey, let's have a thread debating whether we should trade Smart for Ja Morant or Steph Curry!
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

More importantly, the past few games, he's cut down on getting caught in the air with no one to pass to. He's quicker to pass out when he touches the paint or he rises up for his middy. When defense is there, he counters with his spin/turnaround.

What’s crazy about that is he’s only shooting 32% on pull-up threes, is just insane from midrange. He’s shooting 62% from 10-16 feet, and 51% from 16-3PT.

KD was on the table though. The way the Sixers are playing, Embiid might be soon.

If Jaylen is considered a forward is he a lock right now for All NBA?
I apologize for the things I have said in the past.

Re: Jaylen Brown Discussion Thread - New and Improved!
Jaylen, interestingly enough is currently shooting a slightly higher % on self created attempts vs team created attempts. Shooting better than usual on open 3’s but worse on contested ones. So some stuff might shift around but the efficiency should roughly stay the same. Whatever midrange drop off is coming should be compensated with him shooting better from 3 and finishing better when set up. Idk if I buy the 27 ppg since the usage increase is fairly drastic but the around 60% ts should be here to stay.

Right now ? He’d probably make it but still 57 games to go. Anything can happen, even if Jaylen keeps his current level up, other players will rise and fall around him. Top 12 (not counting centers) is just a super narrow range.

True, but the path at forward seems a lot less competitive than at guard. But I'm probably overlooking a few guys.

You have Giannis, Tatum and KD clearly above and then Jaylen is firmly in the next tier with the likes of Lebron, Siakam, George, Jimmy and a few others.
As of today I’d think he gets in

I think there are 5 guys who are locked in, Tatum, Giannis, AD, KD then Lebron. Whether Lebron deserves it or not is a different story, but he's Lebron James and he's going to pass Kareem. 6th spot up for grabs, which should be Siakam if he stays healthy for the rest of the season but it's more fluid.

AD has made all NBA 3x. All at Center
EDIT: AD in fact was voted in as a forward once in the 2014-2015 season. His 3 subsequent nominations have all been at C though

Re: Jaylen Brown Discussion Thread - New and Improved!
What may hurt Jaylen is the same thing that hurt Tatum a couple of years ago, I’m guessing his votes will get split between guard and forward.
The locks at forward are probably Tatum, Giannis, KD, LeBron (for reasons I disagree with), and maybe Siakam if he stays healthy. Jaylen will be fighting with Jimmy/PG/DDR for that last spot.
