This quote, his tentativeness in the game & helping Draymond up after stealing the ball off of you infuriates the hell out of me.

You played horrible in the finals, Draymond & Steph mocked your team after & this is how you respond ?

Like all the greats, he needs to take s*** personal otherwise we’re going to continue to see games like we did yesterday.

What he says to the media and what will be said behind closed doors is completely different. Trust me on that.

He has responded with an MVP-calibre season.

If Tatum went "soft" against more teams everyone hating on Tatum would have a point.. But eliminate GS (for whatever reason) Tatum plays like a MVP level player.

The Odds are great Tatum returns to MVP level very soon.

And while I can't Guarantee an occasional "Soft" performance will not happen again. Overall Tatum will still be killing the rest of the NBA.

What happened to Tatums elite 3pt shooting from earlier in his career? He's not going to be an MVP until he starts sniping again.

The dude even invited Tatum to his wedding after beating the crap out of us. What do you expect? They are all buddy buddies.
I agree with he rest you said. Tatum needs to take this personal. He must have that killer mentality especially against them. He can’t have this mental breakdowns. He did this with every series in the playoffs other than the nets series. Playing great, then laying an egg the following game, then playing great the next one. He needs to be consistent. Missing wide open layups, free throws, tentative and erratic passing are all mental. I think he can overcome that, i hope. but saying his game doesn’t mean anything after that disaster of a performance is just lame.

I don’t know man. He played awful against the Heat when Butler came back. Though the final numbers were decent, he played soft and been missing bunnies, and layups and wide open shots. It’s not only curry and the warriors, butler and the heat clowned him as well, and it’s in his head now.

He had an efficient 29 in a win against Butler on the second game of the season, and won ECF mvp against them last year lol. One poor game against them with Butler equates to in his head?

If people want to get on Tatum, whatever, but let’s keep it factual.

Eye test is better than stats for me. He had an awful game against the heat, the game Butler returned. 14pts in 41mins. 0/7 from 3. Wasting the heroics of Jaylen by being timid in the 4th and overtime. Missing wide open ahots and layups, while Jimmy hitting hard clutch shots. That happened after scoring 49 the game before lol. He did that in the playoffs, playing great one game, then laying an egg the next. Then playing great again. Plus don’t tell me you already forgot that game 7 against the heat, where we almost lost it by playing scared the closing minutes of that game. So, it’s not one game against the heat and the warriors. There is really something mental with JT against them. It would have been fine if he played bad against some other teams, but not against the Warriors, Heat or bucks.

The Celtics have played the Heat three times this season, twice with Butler. In the first game, Tatum scored 29 in a win. The last game he was atrocious, why does one game count more than the other?

Game 7? The one he dropped multiple daggers on the Heat, until they hard trapped him and refused to let him get a shot in the last few minutes? That seems like something the eye test would remember.

The Warriors are clearly something Tatum needs to figure out, the Heat are another story.

In 2022 playoffs, Tatum had only 3 games where he scored fewer than 20 points. Jimmy Butler meanwhile had three games against the Celtics where he scored 8, 6, 13. Then he bricked a go-ahead shot in game 7.
What is your internet psychological diagnosis for Jimmy? He just ain't got that dawg in him? Do the Celtics live rent free in his mind? There's something mentally wrong with Jimmy Butler and he just shook?

There’s nothing I can say positive about his finals lol, he was brutal, the whole team struggled being efficient, with him at the top of the reasons.

But since we keep seeing talk of no killer mentality or silly stuff like that. Here’s Tatum’s games 4-7 of the Bucks and Heat series, when the games really picked up importance against two of the best defenses in the league.

Bucks- 33/9/5 on a 60% TS
Heat- 27/10/6 on a 64% TS

And we know what he did against the Nets.

The Warriors are absolutely something Tatum will need to work on, whether physically or mentally. But the talk on killer instinct? He showed it like crazy up until the finals. He has destroyed pretty much every playoff team he’s faced this year, except the Warriors, then the Hawks (lol) and the Pelicans. Here’s his numbers against possible playoff teams this season.

Hawks- 19/7/8 on a 46% TS
Nets- 29/11 on a 67% TS
Cavs- 29/9/5 on a 62% TS
Bulls- 30/10/6 on a 60% TS
Mavs- 37/13/5 on a 61% TS
Nuggets- 34/8/5 on a 66% TS
Warriors- 18/7/2 on a 37% TS
Grizzlies- 39/3/2 on a 61% TS
Heat- 31/9/3 on a 61% TS
Pelicans- 19/7/10 on a 46% TS
Sixers- 35/12/4 on a 73% TS
Suns- 25/5/2 on a 58% TS
Raps- 31/12/3 on a 59% TS

That’s pretty incredible consistency against the best teams.

I do not know my metrics, but I'm pretty sure there's a way to compare the kind of threes Tatum took in his first years VS the ones he takes now in terms of difficulty, spot up vs off-the-dribble, open vs contested.

We had Kyrie, Rozier, Hayward, etc.. In his first year when he shot 40+%, his threes were very similar to the ones that Grant takes now
Robert Horry is better than MJ, because everybody knows that 7>6.

This is pretty much it, teams never leave him open, ever lol. I’ll just throw in the metrics to give an idea.

This season- 4th percentile in 3PT quality/86th in 3PT shot making

Last season- 2nd percentile in quality/95th in shot making

Two seasons ago- 1st percentile in quality/99th in shot making

Three seasons ago- 1st percentile in quality/100th in shot making

His shot quality is slightly better this year, so it drags down the shot making a bit. But also he’s due for positive correction on pull-ups, is shooting well below his numbers from the last few years.
