I love Mark Williams, and the potential he represents. Saying that, he was not ready for NBA minutes right out of college. His time with The Swarm have helped him gain coaching, training and experience that is paying off now. I HOPE this team finds a trade for Plum (and a couple others possibly), giving the minutes to Nick and Mark. Williams has the higher ceiling of the two but Richards has improved and should carry the starting spot for now.

Big Mark will be THE MAN in our middle.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Mark needed the time with the Swarm. His pick and roll defense was a train wreck at Duke. Stayed in foul trouble (cost us a national title) and at times lacked confidence. Nothing wrong with him going down there and dunking everything to gain confidence and work on his game in general. This season was lost when Miles RKO'd his wife and half the team sprained their ankle. Was no need to rush him.

Wasn't he the ACC DPOY?

Take a list at that award historically, not a clear sign that the winner is ready to play in the league.

I don't care about that.

I'm trying to reconcile "defensive train wreck in the p&r" with "ACC DPOY"

I also don't subscribe to the thought that Swarm time is any better than actual NBA game time, practice, and just being around to professional game and grind.

Was the DPOY because he blocked everything in site and rebounded everything. Teams attacked him on the pick and roll quite a hit, though. Also struggled with foul trouble a lot. Most of that was early to mid-season but it showed its head in the final 4 against Bacot and UNC

To be fair be seemed very heavy footed at the beginning of the season, but that progressed. Doesn't seem nearly that way now. Almost seemed like a lack of confidence trying to guard anything outside of 10 feet.

I've been big on Mark for 2 years now. I think he's going to be phenomenal. Only worry is teams trying to go small like Golden State did putting Draymond at the 5 and he just seemingly stand 2 feet above the arc which opens up everything for opposing teams scared of his shot blocking. Kind of like the Gobert effect. I think he moves a little better laterally than Gobert though. He's a really, really good pick where we got him however and will be better than Duren.

I didn't have a problem with the team slow rolling Williams at the beginning of the season when we had a chance. I did have a problem with the team keeping him with the Swarm when we had already banked 20 losses and it was clear this season would not be competitive. At this point given what we've seen there's no reasonable excuse to hold him back any longer.

I want all the youth, including and especially Williams, to log big minutes while Plumlee and Oubre go somewhere else. I wouldn't mind Terry 'managing' his body either so Theo and DSJ can get lots of run though I'm less in a rush to trade him.

I love his length, but he has a ways to go to be a good player. Right now he isn't strong enough to guard strong guys and may never be mobile enough to guard fast guys. He helps your team defense by having a really tall guy hanging around somewhere but is not a good individual defender. He also mostly helps vs bad teams right now. Good teams are going to find a way to exploit his weaknesses.

To be an impact player he needs to gain some strength and dominate physically inside on the boards. Mason P. is an average to below average center, but I don't think it is a given that any of M. WIlliams, JT Thor, N. Richards or K. Jones will ever be better than Mason P. is right now. They are all young and have plenty of time. Big guys are best in the 25-33 range so we need to be patient.

Mark to shoot 3s next year, per Cliff.

If he gets 3pt range, that's an All-Star caliber big in the making.

His ability to raise the ceiling of an offense is going to be even greater if he can shoot 3s.

Im following Mark Williams for fantasy reasons.

As a prospect his numbers checked out for me. I was high on Kessler and have been following Kessler also.

And it was my first time to watch him play against the Celts

1- he lacks confidence with his game. You see him looking at the bench every time. Concerned with what’s the bench reaction and if he’s about to be replaced
2- his reaction time is just slow it feels like im watching Boban play and I hope this can be solved with more experience

Overall, Im intrigued with per minute production, impact, size and athleticism. He even has a very good shooting mechanics. But he needs experience and more freedom to make mistakes and learn on the court.

Might have a better version of Miles Turner on our hands. Feels like that is selling him short too.

This dumbass franchise...if he had played as much as Kessler so far the buzz on Williams would be everywhere and he'd be in the running for all rookie first team

But no, because we are the Hornets, we can't have nice things.
