18 and 11 on 8 for 8 shooting (dunking) in 32 minutes and the Pistons get the W over the Warriors. With Marvin Bagley out for a while I'm expecting Duren's minutes and numbers will increase in January as he and Stewart will likely each get close to 32 MPG each night. Could/Should be a good month for the youngest player in the league.

Jalen Duren is pretty much 18/19 year old Dwight Howard. Funny enough, even though Dwight came out of High School, they're roughly the same age for their rookie seasons. It'll be interesting to see how he develops.

I think I'd pick Griffin #2 in a redraft.

I'm a big Mathurin fan but Paolo is the ROTY and Benn is SMOY so far.

Ochai Agbaji starting to put together some good games.

Last night put up 19pts in 22mins, shot 7/7 from the field, went 4/4 behind the arc! He was part of the Donovan Mitchell trade.

The ROY race is well over but im super impressed with Mathurin. Like Paolo he already has the grown man body and is a force driving to the rim.

If Paolo keeps this up he could be a final selection for the AllStar game. Playing with supreme confidence right now and seems to be well liked in the nba circles

This thread is further proof that everything revolves around scoring.

There's been multiple articles on advanced analysis on Dyson Daniels defensive impact in the last week and I don't think he's been mentioned in 15 pages.

Some of this analysis compared him to a young Pippen in that regard.

Basically states he's an absolutely freakish rookie defender, he's one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA at the moment, let alone among rookies.

If you need further proof, have a look at him defending Durant 1 vs 1 just a few days ago.

Sure but in what context are you talking about?

That he doesnt get talked about in general enough? Or the fact that he isnt being talked about as a possible ROY?

If its the first part then I agree. He's been a really good perimeter defender for a 19 year old rookie and that definitely deserves its praise. But in no way do I think he should be in the conversation for ROY. There really is no debating on who has been the better rookie between him and say Paolo. Paolo is asked to do significantly more and he is living up to what is asked of him pretty well. While on the flip side, ya Daniels has been really good defensively, but he is also unplayable on the other end. In his last 10 games he is averaging 1ppg and 2 assists. His shooting splits in that time is 19/23/00.

But I agree just rookie talk in general, him and his defense should get some love.

This thread is the Rookie discussion, not purely ROTY discussion.

I'm more talking about him in general.

He's been spoken about in about 10 posts in this entire thread and he's defensively as impressive as probably Banchero is offensively at the moment.

He legitimately should be in the conversation for All-NBA defensive discussions for guards. He's not going to make the team, but he should be in the discussion with the pool of 5-10 guards. I've seen him cause real problems for both Doncic and Durant recently.

He's that good at the moment on the defensive end.

Some good discussion here:

Agreed and that is all I was trying to clear up with you.

Again I agree 100% that he should be given his credit for his defense. When it comes to why he hasnt really been talked about that much, Pels still arent the most watched team out there so not a lot of people see him play. And ya he is an 18mpg perimeter defensive specialist at the moment. If you dont watch the game its hard to really see what he does. While on the flip side its pretty easy to catch up and see the offensive highlights for an offensive guy.

But ya I agree, the same thing was said about Herb Jones last year and it pretty much took until the postseason for a lot of people to see what kind of defensive player he really was.

I just think it pretty much boils down to, its easier to talk about the offense on the guys you dont watch game in game out.

If you want to talk about him, post it up. There’s not a ton of discussion in the thread this year. It’s mostly just updates. Anyone is welcome to contribute.

Pistons had the 36th pick and I was screaming for Weaver to pick Hardy, always thought his G-League struggles were a little overstated and he still had a lot of talent/potential. Hometown kid also. We went for a draft and stash instead and Hardy went one pick later.

Looks like Kessler is going to a lock for the first all-rookie team as well. Who fills out the remaining 2 spots?
Ivey, Jabari Smith, and Keegan Murray are the next leading scorers but they have been very up and down to say the least
Jalen Duran is starting to become a consistent double double
Jalen Williams and Tari Eason have been shown flashes
