According to this article Kenrich Williams is NBA leader in hustle.

https://www.perthirtysix.com/essay/hustle-index

Can we get him before this deadline?

Nice find, minimus.

Up near the top of the charts are a number of my favorite trade targets, like Caruso, TJ McConnell and Tre Jones, but I hadn’t given much thought to Kenrich Williams. OKC extended him for another four years at about $7 mil a year, so he also provides the team control that MIN should consider for any acquisition.

I wonder what OKC wants for him? They extended him, so they must like him, but he’s 28, so he doesn’t really fit the timeline.

In my opinion this team would benefit from having multiple 28-30yo role players around Ant. I am kind of sick and tired of hearing that we have talented group. It is true, but I wonder if adding someone like Kenrich Williams will bring more stability, resilience to this group. Something like Kyle Anderson effect. If at the same time we can add a PG who can take care of the ball and provide some defense I would try to re-build this team identity by adding execution and discipline.

Honestly, this is why Kyle and Taurean are near non-starters in any trade discussions for me personally. After Ant and Jaden (and probably Rudy), they are the next highest on my list of guys I'm not willing to part with.

I agree, and I meant, 28 doesn’t really fit the Thunder’s timeline.

Speaking from OKC fan side [I follow OKC and MIN the most] those in the OKC camp see Kenrich Williams as a wing-version of Nick Collison, the dirty work, not interested in stats guy, but solid stabilizing presence in the locker room and on the court. Most of the Thunder fans want a FRP for him. [not sure how Presti values him in that sense, but his super-team-friendly contract is a steal for the impact he brings in his prime]. I would love to see KWilliams on the Wolves

However, realistically, I think MN needs to upgrade the PG spot, bc in the games I've caught, Dlo seems to tank the POA defense and his inability to get Gobert involved on the PnR is concerning. When Dlo is shooting sub-40% the team suffers because he isn't the best facilitator, or defender.

Lowry on MN might be worth a shot, or FVV, but some other pieces have to move. And another interesting idea I came across is Naz/DLo for Bertans and THJ. [get ready for poor Bertans defense in that sit but at least he's a bench winger not a starter]

MIN doesn’t have any 1sts, but do you think OKC might like Wendell Moore Jr or Josh Minott?

I haven't seen either play too much, wish I could comment more on both gents. I like Minott's game coming into the draft and his few games earlier in the year he played, I think I saw one where he was playing in garbage time... but I haven't seen any Iowa Wolves games [located in CA so it's hard to catch any G League except the SC Dubs or Stockton Kings on the tele unless I trawl the internet for highlights.]

BUT yeah... Presti would probably like to have a 6'8 winger to continue the 'twin-thin-towers' edition of OKC roster

What can you tell me about Wendell bc I don't think Iv'e seen him play yet

oh and edit: thanks for the welcome! i mostly lurk, trying to post more...

They are basically opposite sides of the coin.

Wendell Moore Jr played three years under Coach K at Duke. Earned lots of awards. He’s an older rookie that’s good at everything, but great at nothing. He was a surprise starter when several wolves were out, and he played okay.

Josh Minott is an athletic freak, and the description we hear is, “he plays like his hair is on fire”. He was a highly top ten prospect in high school, but mediocre in his one season at Memphis so his draft stock fell. However, he was terrific in summer league, and showed so much athleticism and hustle that he was given a Hinkie Special contract.

I guess my question in general is, do you think Sam Presti right now would want a more polished glue guy to be a floor raiser, or prefer a wild card that probably won’t be better than WMJ, but has a small chance to be a lot better?

And is either part of the pathway to a legitimate offer for Kenrich Williams?

I would not trade Minott nor Moore for Kenrich Williams, but maybe Reid and Nowell might be interesting for OKC? Especially Reid as offensive minded 5-out big.

We already passed the point of no return with the roster construction. The only untouchables for this season are: Towns, Gobert, Ant, SlowMode, JMac, Prince. Just looking at Williams' stats, he seems like a good 3+D guy at the needed height and league experiences. It's a little odd that he is shooting 40% from 3s but 46% FT. For a real 40% 3s guy, I would trade Minott or Moore

See I'm hesitant to make that call also, Minott and Moore Jr are pretty untested, and absolutely young prospects with oodles of potential, but Kenrich is part of solid lineups in the NBA consistently and at this point is the better player, but probably has a lower ceiling than either guy. Anyway... spent 30 minutes on a trade on Fanspo, do you think this is a good framework ?? Seems a bit crazy but honestly I'm killing time.

Preface: Pick compensation not added. Kenrich Williams cannot be traded until 01-16-2023.

MIN OUT
DLO > ATL [used in bench role]
Reid > ATL [Collins replacement]
Nowell > OKC [wing presence to develop in OKC]
Forbes > OKC [two wingers sent to OKC] ---> Forbes is waived

ATL OUT
A Holiday > MIN [Forbes replacement]
Collins > MIN [used in bench role]

OKC OUT
K Williams > MIN [Flexible winger like Slo-Mo]
JRE > ATL [could also be sent to MIN for Naz Reid replacement, if Holiday is sent to OKC instead]

Why ?

Minnesota receives a PF to compliment team comp and shifts Ant to the 1. Gobert, and Towns play as starters but one of them + Collins is a good level of frontcourt by committee during substitutions. KWilliams/A Holiday to shore up backcourt. MIN has other options for PF too, with Slo-Mo, McD, and Kenrich also having played PF.

ATL stops playing an average/overpaid Collins for his lack of production, adds two solid 6'9 PFs to pair with CC and uses DLO to fire off points vs bench unit, and use backcourt by committee (Young/Murray/DLO) always playing one of Young Murray.

OKC receives MIN tradeable low-salary players, probably a pick compensation from ATL, Bryn Forbes, who will be waived, and Nowell to develop. Jalen Williams (JDub) plays PF for Thunder and they draft PF or C in the upcoming draft. Poku and Bazley also playing PF for OKC.

Projected depth chart (basic)

MIN
A1/Holiday/JMAC or Rivers
Kenrich/Rivers or Holiday
McDaniels/Prince/Slo-Mo
KAT/Collins
Gobert + KAT[have one of KAT / RG on floor anytime]

ATL

Young/Murray [have one of Young / Murray on floor anytime]
Murray/DLO/Griffin
Hunter/Bogdan
Reid/JRE
Capela/OO

OKC

SGA/Mann
Dort/Isiah Joe/Nowell
Giddey/Wiggins/Dieng
JDub/Poku/Bazley
JWill/Muscala/Holmgren[IR]

Yeah, I think Moore and Minott value is not that high at the moment. But I wouldn't trade them because we have multiple years of team control of their contract. And potential of both rookies is high. It makes no sense for us to trade them now, they are unproven in NBA, but I see why they can be successful in NBA based on their gleague play and age (Minott case), NCAA basketball foundation (Moore case).

Just to add some context:

SGA-Dort-Williams-Giddey-Poku is worst NBA lineup by far according to +/- metric. Which in my opinion speaks more about their frontcourt and wings then backcourt, because SGA is playing in my opinion at All NBA level.

Yes, no complains but wish to get a stronger back court player back. Collins would fill Reid's role and we continue to use JMac for POA defense. So our starting backcourt of the future is effectively Ant + JMac. Like to see a little more game management + passing from the backcourt player but could work.

I wouldn’t mind kicking the tires on Derrick Rose for PG depth.
