With the cap situation being what it is, there's really no all-in with Love. The absolute best case scenario for win-now folks is they bring back the same group of players plus some 23 draft picks. I don't see that team as a contender.

The Queens will still be good-ish, and the Lions should improve. The Bears will still suck

This. I'm under no delusions that this team is gonna be like, a Top-5 SB contender or anything next year due to the cap situation, and that's regardless of who's under center. But this is the NFL man. You think the Giants thought they'd be in the playoffs this year? The Jags? Love looks great, the 2nd year guys take big leaps, you get some unexpected immediate production from some of your 2023 rookies, and I could easily see 10-7 winning the division next year.

If you take all the cap hit for AR in 2023, then 2023 is a "rebuild the core" season. Cut the veteran fat, draft well in both 2023/2024, and then go into 2024 with a good young core and cap space and Love with a full year of starting experience under his belt. To me, their overall 2023 record is not that relevant, it's how Love and the young guys look in general.

Keeping Barry is one of the biggest issues right now, to be honest.

If we are going to rebuild, it makes sense to keep him, so we can maximize our own draft picks.

If we trade Rodgers, I think we should trade Bak too and probably we can get something for him (a 2nd/3rd maybe?). We will be paying most of his salary, so I think the other team would only have to pay 6M/year for a Top5 LT. Am I right about it? Perhaps we can even deal both to the same team.

What do you think we might get for Aaron Jones? I'd prefer to keep him, but maybe we can get a 2nd? McCaffrey was traded for a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th por example.

In addition, probably we might get some draft compensation in 2024 for Lazard, Amos, Lowry, Cobb, Lewis, Tonyan and Crosby.

I can't imagine a single team willing to trade for Bakh let alone for a day 2 pick

Big article in the Athletic beat the Jets beat reporter going deep on what an Aaron Rodgers trade would look like and why it makes sense. It's worth a read if for no other reason than to kick-start some day dreaming:

Here’s the return on some recent notable quarterback trades:

• The Falcons traded Matt Ryan (37 years old) to the Colts for a third-round pick.
• The Seahawks traded Russell Wilson (34) and a fourth-round pick to the Broncos for two first-round and two second-round picks, a fifth-rounder and three players (QB Drew Lock, DL Shelby Harris, TE Noah Fant).
• The Texans traded Deshaun Watson (27) and a sixth-round pick to the Browns for three first-round, one third-round and two fourth-round picks.
• The Colts traded Carson Wentz (30) and a second-round pick to the Commanders for one second-round and two third-round picks.
• In 2021, the Lions traded Matthew Stafford (then 33) to the Rams for two first-round and one third-round pick, plus QB Jared Goff.

Based on that criteria, it would be surprising if Rodgers were traded for anything less than multiple first-round picks, and probably more. Any acquiring team would be smart, though, to attach conditions to the trade in the event that Rodgers retired after 2023.

Would the Jets be willing to trade that much? By all accounts, owner Woody Johnson is willing to do whatever it takes to upgrade at quarterback and get the Jets back to the playoffs. The idea of Rodgers in a Jets uniform — and what that would do for ticket sales — has to pique Johnson’s interest.

Other competition for Rodgers
Another factor: The Jets likely wouldn’t be the only team with eyes for Rodgers. ESPN reported that the Packers wouldn’t be willing to trade him within the NFC.

If that’s true, these teams might make sense as candidates for Rodgers:

• Raiders: A reunion with wide receiver Davante Adams.
• Dolphins: The best supporting cast on this list.
• Patriots: Not a better overall roster than the Jets, but they do have Bill Belichick, a top-level defense and better offensive line.
• Titans: Derrick Henry, good coaching and a solid defense — though a severe lack of pass-catchers.
• Colts: A team in disarray, but they do have some pieces on offense and defense.
• Ravens: If they moved on from Lamar Jackson.

If the Packers did trade within the NFC, the Giants, Buccaneers, Saints, Panthers and 49ers all make varying degrees of sense as potential destinations.

If a bidding war breaks out and they get multiple firsts (and probably more), Gute's forgiven.

He struggled early in the season and was actually worse than Nijman was last year, but he seemed to come around late in the season. I don't know the cap rules all that well; is there any truth to the idea that his new team would only pay a tiny portion of his salary? Then a decent pick might be feasible.

I'd love to move on and get something of value. I've heard that argument that keeping Bakh is a good idea because his cap hit is only about $6m more than his dead cap, but doesn't that overlook the fact that keeping him for $6m extra means they're still stuck with a much more difficult dead cap decision the next season, where his cap hit is much higher than his dead cap? It sounds like more kicking the can down the road. Zach Tom looked good at LT this year, Nijman was underrated there last year, and Jenkins has been outstanding there in the past. They have options.

Bakh was good last season and elite by the end. He was absolutely better than Yosh. If he was put on the market I don't think he goes for less than a 2nd, but a 1st wouldn't be out of the question.

Dolphins would be so good with Rodgers in there. But I am not that high on Tua, just don't think he is special and now is having a lot of concerns around concussions, not good.

Seems like Las Vegas makes the most sense. Gets Rodgers out west, reunited with Davante, good weapons in Jacobs, Waller and Renfrow in addition. Hell, even that Mack Hollins guy is built like Lazard.

I do think the New England angle is interesting. Because defense will be good, I could see them bringing in Hopkins, Lazard and Cobb all to make Rodgers happy with the offense.

But it does feel like we are maybe at the end of the Rodgers era.

I think it's probably a pipe dream to expect a 1st and maybe even a good 2nd for Bahk. I just think teams are gonna be too spooked with the contract until they see him play a full season. Aaron Jones is the interesting trade candidate. Would obviously still want him around as a security blanket for Love if they can restructure his deal, but if there's a team out there offering multiple Day-2 picks for him? Obviously Christian McCaffrey is a better player in a vacuum, but he went for a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 2024 5th round pick, and that was after only playing in 16-games the past 2-3 years combined.

Don't underestimate the value of a great LT. According to Andy Herman's breakdowns, David got his groove back this year and has reclaimed his status as one of the premier LT in the league.

I'd guess we can get at least a second for him, but won't be surprised if we nab a first. If I am thinking about this the right way, if we are stuck with most of his bonus money, the team getting him would (maybe?) only owe 6.7M in 23 for him and 10.7M in 24. That's peanuts for a pro bowl tackle.

I meant that he was a downgrade from Yosh at the beginning of the season. Trying to work him back in was a temporary step backwards, and understandably so. Same thing happened with Jenkins at guard, for that matter. I certainly didn't mean that he was worse than Yosh overall, else I wouldn't have even suggested that they might get something of value for him.

That was exactly my thought of line. If we are going to pay him a lot of money (and dead cap), his contract shall be super low for the other team that we trade him considering he is a Top5 in his position, but I am no cap specialist, maybe one of you guys can confirm it.

It's all happening.

Plus, the Jets are having trouble hiring an offensive coordinator to replace Mike LaFleur. Saleh has a lengthy list of candidates he’s already spoken to or plans to, but no one appears to be a front-runner. There is a belief around the league that any team that hires Nathaniel Hackett would have a better shot at getting Rodgers because of their close relationship. The Jets interviewed Hackett for the job, and he’s worked with Saleh before, though it’s unclear if he intends to return to coaching so soon after his disastrous 15-game tenure as head coach of the Broncos. Hackett was previously the Packers’ offensive coordinator.

Well, Broncos hired him for this very same reason and in the end Rodgers stayed here...

Yea, but the Packers weren't trading him last year. Maybe they're open to doing so now. I would hope so.

That’s because the Packers didn’t want to trade him last year.
