Well, we might’ve been interested. No word on specifics.

Sure. Could've also been posturing from Washington to claim they had multiple suitors. Who knows, nowadays. :dontknow:

I wouldn't be shocked to see the Pacers do nothing at the dead line.

I wouldn't either although getting paid to absorb a contract wouldn't be a shocker.

It would be nice and there are 5-6 teams deep in the tax, but will they pay out a #1 to dump salary?

Can two-way players be traded? What are our options to bring a point guard up from the Ants? We could waive Johnson and sign someone to a ten day deal

They can. They bring no matching salary for trade rules, and the receiving team would have to have an open 2 way spot to make the trade.

Could waive a player from the active roster and sign someone to a contract (either 10 day or rest of season). Or, waive a 2 way and sign someone else to a new 2 way spot. Also, trades, etc.

So a traded two-way is still a two-way. The contract can't be elevated as part of the deal ... An open roster spot won't work. We could though take a two-way players back .

Correct. They could immediately elevate he player to the main roster after the trade, but it would not be as one fluid event. Just like how you have to clear the required roster spots before making a deal and that you can’t just waive an incoming guy in the swap to clear a spot.

Generally, returning player rights aren’t acquired in conjunction with bringing a guy in as a 2 way. They’re kind of opposite uses. Remember, If you pay a player more than $50k, then they can’t later sign and play for your GLeague team that season. You could say that LA acquired his rights in anticipation that he’s waived by Indy and no one sins him to a 2 way.

His returning rights were owned by Rio Grand Valley of Houston’s affiliation, not Ft Wayne.

but Queen could be traded for Pippen (or their other 2-way) if the rights acquisition is a sign the Lakers are interested in him.

Could be. But acquiring returning rights for the GLeague is specifically a sign, because if two way rules, that the GLeague team wants him. Not that the big league team wants him. If LA trades for Queen, and waives him, they wouldn’t then be able to assign him to their GLeague affiliate based on the $50k limitation.

Returning rights are essentially worthless and nullified if you have the player on a two way contract.

With Myles new salary being 35ish million for this season, it seems like even though he's still trade eligible it's a lot less likely at the deadline. Maybe the Laker deal that's been endlessly discussed throws Beverley in now to make the salaries match? The Lakers having that big cap hold on Rui maybe makes them more interested in longer term contracts now? My assumption is that Myles stays.

So, what should the Pacers do at the deadline with their 3 picks and 10 million of space? We need wings. We can send out McConnell and/or Theis (both around 8ish million) to match salary too, but both have two more seasons under contract. I think McConnell always plays well enough that his salary is pretty neutral. Theis just hasn't been on the floor this year.

Maybe just wait-and-see how growth goes for Duarte and Nesmith when they're getting minutes and just use the cap space to absorb salary for some tax paying team?
