The sooner Kyrie Irving is out of the NBA, the better for everyone involved.

I mean, they can’t if he’s following through on his threats to leave, especially since they’ve put foot down at a large guaranteed deal. They don’t hold any trump cards here, and Kyrie has made it clear that he’ll fight hard to get his way. They’ve got tough decisions to make.

I don't blame him. The Nets clearly don't respect him. Him and KD are the team and with KD out he's carrying them. Not once did the team come to bat or defend him during the Instagram nonsense and they didn't even respect his game enough to give him a contract a game like his deserves. KD bout to ask for a trade next. RAPTORS!!!!!! THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING LETS GET IN THERE AND TRY A TING YOOOOW!!!

Haha I pity the team dumb enough to trade assets for this ticking time bomb.

The guy is just so self-centered.

Respect is a two-way street. When is the last time he showed the Nets any respect?

You at least steal a Lakers unprotected first round pick trading an expiring contract for an expiring contract??

Yeah, there's no message to be sent here. You either try to get some assets like a FRP or two for Kyrie or you not only lose him next summer for nothing, you also hurt the team's chemistry this year. Not to mention KD is in a win now mode, so you try to bring in a player who's willing to play and keep them a contender. Otherwise you get KD to demand a trade, too.

Why would the Lakers give up a FRP for Kyrie? they can sign him in the off-season, which they have to do anyway

I don’t know the terms of the nets extension but I assume the comp was based on some sort of games played guarantee.

The lakers don’t have the projected cap space to offer kyrie a max contact this summer.

Totally agree, although the destination can be somewhere else. E.g. to Miami for Duncan Robinson or to the Clippers for Norman Powell

This season is lost and KD knows it. There is no way the Nets is going to replace Kyrie mid-season and win the Championship three months from now.

The silver lining is this gives KD solid evidence the team needs to move on from KD this summer rather than re-signing for an arm and a leg.

No team will be crazy enough to sign Kyrie to the max this summer anyway.

Everyone knows Kyrie is a ticking timebomb. Whoever silly enough to trade for him is not gonna be able to retain him past the summer unless they pay him max money, which no team in the right mind would do.

Essentially, would the Lakers swap Westbrook and a first for four months of Kyrie?

Lol, clown franchise.

Brooklyn is incentivized to get all their picks and swaps from the Rockets back. They should trade KD, Kyrie to the Rockets. Rockets can then sign Harden in the off-season.
