“Prior to completing the Irving trade on Monday, the Nets approached Toronto with the possibility of expanding the deal, sources confirmed to TSN, but the belief is that scenario – which would’ve sent VanVleet to Brooklyn in exchange for Dinwiddie and draft capital – never gained much traction.
While the Nets don’t have the quality or quantity of assets that some of those teams out West do, they can shop the 2029 unprotected pick they just received from Dallas, as well as Dinwiddie or Finney-Smith, though neither can be packaged with other players in a deal. They’re expected to be among the league’s most active teams ahead of Thursday’s deadline, so this isn’t the last time the Raptors will hear from them between now and then.
Raptors president Masai Ujiri and general manager Bobby Webster figure to be very popular over the coming days. For what it’s worth, they’ve been telling interested teams that if they don’t like what’s out there this week or if they’re not ready to make a big move, they’re willing to wait and play out the season. As TSN reported last month, the sense throughout the association has been that Ujiri’s preference is to retool around the core he built and believes in, as opposed to breaking it up and launching a full rebuild.
According to one league source, the Raptors have been reluctant to seriously engage with offers for Siakam and also don’t seem eager to move Anunoby, who’s under contract through next season. Where they might be feeling more urgency is with VanVleet and Gary Trent Jr., who are expected to opt for free agency this summer and will be seeking big raises.”

Interesting that Lewenberg is saying that Masai and Co. Ate not thrilled with offers so far and are ok with holding onto OG and Siakam. Fred and Trent would be the most likely traded due to contract status. Lewenberg has been used as a mouthpiece for the FO before.

This is great news. Keep Siakam and OG, trade Fred to Brooklyn or wherever the best offer is. Work on getting a younger quick playmaking guard to replace Fred. Then add more for next year.

Eric Smith on Fan590 tonight said much the same as Lewenberg, with less details. Won't be surprised if we don't move OG.

Yup I would only move OG and Pascal for a star, or at the draft for a pick where you know who is available. KD may become available or who knows Shai asks out in OKC, so many scenarios can happen between now and when these two expire. The same picks being offered for 2027 and 2029 will all be there for the taking a year from now.

Unless you get an unbelievable offer, you keep these two players.

People still don’t know how Masai operates after all these years. Just go back to his Denver days and see what he did in the Melo trade. He will not be bullied by anyone into taking a devalued offer

Yeah he basically gets buckets whenever he gets extended minutes. What’s your point?

Cam Thomas was a bucket at LSU. He's not some unknown scrub. He fell to 27th because his defensive effort wasn't always there. But as a 6th man scorer, he fits a role.

Hes a chucker who gets baskets in extended minutes cause hes a ball hog. You think Fred holds the ball to much wait until you go actually watch his games. The guy has been benched multiple times because of his selfish play.

But no lets play your game and think he would be a great asset we should trade Pascal or OG for.

Cam Thomas’s profile from the draft lets look at his weaknesses:

Weaknesses
Tunnel Vision

This happens with all great scorers, but for Thomas it’s a little more of a concern. Even though he committed just 1.7 turnovers per game last season, the stat that really stands out is just 1.4 assists per game. Once the ball got in Thomas hands he often didn't give it up, which led to forced shots that had no chance of finding the bottom of the net.

Inconsistent Defender

This is a bit of a surprise based off Thomas height (6’4’’) and weight (210), which would make you assume he is a pretty solid defender. Even though he can be at times, Thomas got blown by a fair amount last season and just doesn't play with a high motor defensively.

You can tell a lot of Thomas energy goes to the offensive end of the floor as his effort can get called into question at times defensively. Thomas has a good frame though, so he is never going to get pushed around but quicker point guards and shooting guards will go by him and get easy buckets at the rim which has to be cleaned up.

The Cameron Thomas Conundrum
Thomas is the most gifted scoring freshman in the country, but the amount of shots he takes comes at a price

the only one who really needs to go is vanvleet. if anunoby can be convinced to stay the team can still compete and develop. the right replacement for vanvleet could do wonders.

Oh and despite Cam’s 47 point performance Nets still lost, and you wonder why?

I’ll give you one thing, Cam could be a great tank commander. He will get his, but you know he will hinder the progress of others.

Guys there's a million cam Thomas types in this league

Small scoring guard that can't do anything else

Literally tonight Jaden Hardy, a second round pick, just went off. That's what these microwave scorers do.

I guarantee Masai isn't fooled by these last 2 games lol, he still has little value and will certainly NOT be a centerpiece.

Whatever players Masai targets I just dont want any ball dominant iso players, i want to go back to moving the ball and getting everyone involved.

Playing against Kawhi/PG with Edmond Sumner as a backcourt partner. And you expect them to win?

If the Raps do decide to acquire Cam Thomas, it's because they believe Trent won't return and they'll likely trade him.

That isnt the point, Kawhi hasnt won every game this year. Nets were leading most of the game. When you have a player take most of the shots and the rest of the team is just watching, and that said player who got 47 points took 29 shots! Then that should tell you how involved the rest of the Nets team was. And to top that off this said player brings nothing on defence.

Probably because they played against an elite team with Kawhi and George on it?

So the Clippers haven’t lost to any subpar teams this year?

The point is this was a very winnable game for Nets, they were leading most of the game.

Per 36 stats (which I hate to use but I have to since Thomas doesn’t play mins due to Kyrie/KD)

Bradley Beal at age 21: 16 pts, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 turnovers

Devin Booker at age 21: 22 pts, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 turnovers

Cam Thomas at age 21: 21 pts, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 turnovers

Are Booker and Beal “ball hogs” too that you wouldn’t trade Pascal or OG for if they were available as well?

Look how Beal/Booker developed. I’m not saying Cam will definitely be as good as Beal/Booker but there’s no saying that he can’t come close to a player like that.

Cam Thomas was +3 tonight. Maybe blame the other players?

Curious, do you think Josh Green us better than Cam Thomas because Green is one inch taller?

And how do you feel about Donovan Mitchell btw?

I have no doubt he can be a top scorer but at what cost.
He has got benched because he wouldn’t pass to KD this year. You really want another Terrence D experiment on our hands, I’m sure Terrence’s per 36 stats would be similar.

per 36 stats this year

Cole Anthony 17.2 pts
RJ Barrett 20.9 pts

Oh and our very own

Ron Harper Jr. 32.0 pts

( wow we have the next KD right under our noses )

+ 3 after scoring 47 pts is nothing to brag about. Just goes to show how bad a defender he is

If we trade for Cam I guarantee you he will be on the bench and in Nurses dog house on an ongoing basis.
