Should Emoni Bates stay 1 more year and take advantage of the weak draft?

Imagine Emoni Bates in OTE? Unfair.

Some teams gonna get an absolute steal with Sasser late in the first round cause of his age. He's a starting PG in this league, imo

I don't know if anyone has come across Oso Ighodaro from Marquette. He is not on many draft boards, but he is incredibly impactful in a number of key ways that would translate to Toronto.

-6'9 and decent athlete
-Can easily switch on defense
-incredible passer from high post

Marquette is scoring 123.1 points per 100 possessions with Oso on, and only 113 with him off. On the other end, MU gives up 93.8 pts when Osos is on, but 105.5 when he’s off.

https://painttouches.com/2023/01/26/its-time-to-give-oso-ighodaro-more-love-marquette-big-east-ncaa-nba-draft/

According to RAPM rating in the NCAA he would 13th rated, although he would be 2nd rated in the Big East.

He has the rating because his advanced stats jump out:
BPM: 8
BLK%: 5.8
STL%: 1.9
EFG%: 65.5
TS%: 64.2
AST%: 18.4

In some ways he reminds me of Jakob Poeltl. Just a special defensive player with a knack for making the right plays and being uber efficient when scoring. Although like Poeltl he is missing a jumper/freethrow.

These passing highlights don't tell the whole story, but at least it is something to see how he can basically be like a guard on the floor who has made Marquette have a strong offense.

;t=1s&ab_channel=AdamSpinella

If Toronto wants to draft based on high IQ, I think this guy in the 20-30 range is not impossible if they want an unconventional bench player.

I’m just going to throw his name out there, even though I believe he needs to return to school because there is a lot of work to be done. Like a lot a lot. But his potential is incredible. Kel’el Ware.

He could be an absolute bum like Skal Labissiere, or he could become a Serge Ibaka type of player. Picking at the back end of the first (if we get the 6th seed) is a good area to shoot for projects. But maybe he’s redundant with Koloko.

What about Julian Strawther?

He's shooting 44% from 3. Kevin Martin 2.0?

He looks a lot more confident this season.

He kind of reminds of Chris Boucher when he was at Oregon with his height and combo of blocks and threes, but his numbers are disappointing. I don't think many GMs would want to draft a raw big like that in the first which is why I think he will stay another year to refine his game in college.

To me, getting drafted too early as a big man is death. You end up in the G-League where you cannot develop well because it is so guard oriented.

Yeah. You can see him oozing talent, but there’s limited to no production. I hope he figures it out wherever he goes.

A guy whose film I just find weirdly fascinating is Emanuel Miller for TCU. He is from Scarborough and about 6'7 and has very lanky long arms. Good shooting numbers though he is on low volume. The part that stands out is his defense. Never seen a player play defense quite like he does with arms straight in the air. Credit to that Spinella guy for putting this reel together.

I could see Toronto giving this guy a two-way.

I’ve been monitoring him for a bit. High end 2nd round player. He looks like a 10 year NBA player.

I really like him. I consider him a JHS sort of a bigger guard, except he's 4 yrs older, 2 inches shorter and has better numbers. He's a steadying guy and he's playing good teams like Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and he's equal to outplaying those guards. IF we can't get a big guard I would call him right away from the undrafted.

Glad someone else realizes this.

We need shooting and someone who can ballhandle and Sasser provides both while also meeting the Raptors prerequisite of being a good defender. He is also ready to make an immediate impact.

Meanwhile a lot of Raptors fans want a variety of soft 19 year olds who are brick shooters coming from losing college programs. It's mind boggling.

It doesnt need to be astounding, those moves tell you that he'll be able to create space at the NBA level to get his shot off in a variety of ways and he can bury those. It was a very sweet pump fake into an immediate fake drive, crossover dribble stepback dagger 3. Not many guards in this class can make that look so effortless and then be so darn good at finishing them. He wasn't doing it to be flashy just to get an open shot.

What is he a slightly taller Fred VanVleet?

I'd rather draft Terquavion Smith who is 3 inches taller at 6'4 and hope that when he doesn't have to be the number 1 option his shot selection would be better. As a sophomore Smith has an A/T of 2 while it took Sasser until his senior year to get there.

I think the highest Sasser could go is to Miami at #21. Only other fit I see him going is to the Clippers at #29. Does San Antonio draft him at #32?

Sasser is the second coming of Kyle Lowry. Nobody should doubt a player with the nickname "the silent assassin"

Also note how after he pulls off that move he shoots the 3 pointer perfectly on balance, no fading away or into the shot even slightly. The mechanics are solid as hayl.
