Re: Matisse Thybulle Appreciation Thread
Think Thybulle will do well, but we're probably freaking out a little too much after seeing Isaiah Joe doing so well.
Tisse got tons of minutes last year, and he was targeted in the playoffs. Same thing will happen this year, but the Blazer have way better shooters. He may average 7-10 ppg, but his defense will be invaluable to them. Shame we don't have the roster or coach to accommodate him, but he would not have been used right here. It is what it isy. We are relegated to trash players until Doc is gone.

2 points in 30 minutes. Those are PJ Tucker numbers.

It’s insane to me that the Blazers started Reddish & Matisse over Shaedon Sharpe last night. Starting those 2 is basically tanking so why not do it with your talented 19 year old?

I don’t think he’s wrong but it’s funny to take a 1 game victory lap & then immediately revert to your old self next game. I mean, he said it’s nice to feel the team wants him & has his back, but he let his team down in dramatic fashion last year because he only got half a vaccine.
I think the best thing about Portland is Dame & his leadership. I think a lot of players feed off his style of quiet confidence & accountability. The rest of that org is a hot mess tho.

We will not be missing the 187th best player in the NBA, he is just an afterthought.

Super cool useful and relevant stat.
Lillard was a -13 btw.
I wonder which player had more impact on winning last night.

He is a player who needed Doc. Dude would foul on every 3PT shot if his coach would allow him to get away with it

Re: Matisse Thybulle Appreciation Thread
I'm a big fan of Matisse, not just for his personality and videos, but on the floor he made an impact.
This is just the reality of things for a team trying to contend. You take your stars that you're committed to, and try to fill in the pieces that best maximize their opportunities to win a title with them.
That James Harden bearded impersonator in the YouTube vid, like a lot of Sixers fans are stuck in the process stages. Except not just competing, but trying to win a title and develop guys that are fringe playable at the same time. Like even with his improvement with playing time...I don't see a role for Joe to play on this actual roster that will help the Sixers. Joe was leading the league in 3pt percentage prior to the trade deadline. There are maybe 11 teams that think they have title hopes, and I'm sure if they wanted him.... They could've gotten him.
The warriors are showcasing that it's hard to do both, as they came in relying on development to head their bench and it didn't work. Much more talented youth than the Sixers too.
When you have a clear talent like a Maxey or Poole or Herro... You plug them in as best you can. But, with the other two recently making deep playoff runs, even they needed to be minimized. Thybulle defensively was one of those players, and they plugged him in as best they could.... But he needed to be minimized. I saw his development this year. He's a better ball handler and a more willing 3-point shooter, they clearly have been working with them. However it's just not enough... Yet

You know what? He made a choice about his own health, even if it was bizarre given he got the first shot. At this point, the 'vaccine' thing has not only been overplayed, but as more evidence comes out he may have been smart to cut his losses. But we've been through all of this over and over, and we know where each other stands on it.
Bottom line is he's dead on about Rivers' short leash (or no leash) for young players, and it's great to hear it actually said, even if Thybulle isn't the best example.
And I'm glad to see him gone, regardless how he fares elsewhere.

Matisse is shooting the cover off the ball since being traded. I think there really is a unique pressure to playing in Philly & being a young guy coached by Doc.

'Unique pressure'. Perform at peak efficiency right out of the gate or you'll be buried and eventually dumped unless I have no other option, as in Tyrese Maxey - that's Glenn's unique pressure.
As good as this team is, I don't believe we have quite the goods to win a title here, especially as long as Rivers is the coach. But one thing's for damn sure - once Maxey and any picks we still have are traded this summer chasing that elusive difference making piece, this organization will be left in ashes by Morey and Rivers for the next group to clean up. It really is going to be 'do or die' next season.

Re: Matisse Thybulle Appreciation Thread
The unique pressure applies more to being in Philly imo. Sixers fans are very supportive but you could hear the home crowd would hold their breath every time Matisse shot. Add the Doc element on top only makes it worse because we were all praying he’d make a shot so Doc would keep him on the court. I can empathize with his struggles.

Because we all know he can collect steals, one of the best in the past decade at that. That wasn't enough for him to play for us, and it's also not a sign that he's 'fixing' his game or just needed a change of scenery or whatever to be a complete player.
Healthier to not even worry about it, though, he's off the Sixers and nothing he does from now on has any relevance to the team or our fate.

No need to do this, guys. Matisse played 5000+ minutes for the Sixers, and took 500+ shots. He played with different players and stars and he was the same basic guy the whole time, with the same limitations that didn't seem like they had any clear fixes. You could argue he still should've gotten some more PT these last couple months but Doc wasn't holding him back or anything. (He also turns 26 in a few days so it's not like he's a super early career dude struggling to find his way.)

Re: Matisse Thybulle Appreciation Thread
You don't know if Doc was holding him back or not, and what kind of pressure did he put on him (e.g., if you took and missed a shot, this is a shot another player on our team could have made). Right now in these five games with Portland he is shooting 55% from 3 on 4.4 attempts per game, which is pretty crazy for someone who is supposed to be a non-shooter, even over such a small sample size.
It is very telling for me that the value of our young players who get released or traded grows once that happens. It is also a bit stupid from our perspective because even if we wanted to trade them, we could have gotten more for them.
