What a waste - Warning I'm in my feelings

Post#1 » by eyeatoma » Sat Mar 4, 2023 9:59 am

Going through the years, it's easy to see why people say that Jo is going to leave if Harden goes this summer. This franchise has bumbled every opportunity to put a proper roster around him. The worst transgression was letting Jimmy walk and maxing Tobias. After that I'd say it's letting several players go who had star (Mikal Bridges), starter (Jerami Grant) and rotation player quality (Joe, Thybulle) go for basically nothing.

What a colossal fawk up. I'm so tilted to see these guys perform so well on other teams. Doc Rivers has to go, and Morey needs to get his head out of his ass. His best moves so far were Danny Green, drafting Maxey, the Melton trade, and potentially getting Tucker. Although Tucker is ancient he has shown his immense value in some key playoff atmosphere games.

Let's look at all the players we let go:

1. Mikal Bridges - Yeah he had a hitch on his jumper, and in all likelihood would have failed on this team. Still seeing that comeback against the Celtics and him playing like a number one option on offense just stings.

2. Jerami Grant - Good defender, great at weakside blocks, a decent scorer, but needs usage, he would be a great starter on this team.

3. Markelle Fultz - Probably smart that we cut our losses, but he could have easily been the PG for this team, or a good backup.

4. Matisse Thybulle - Yeah yeah, we say he had the minutes before the vaccine issue, but he seems to be really shining in Portland, and it'll definitely hurt us in the long run.

5. Christian Wood - Headcase but a potential 20/10 player, again would have been a good backup.

6. Richaun Holmes - Before the allegation of child abuse (which were unfounded), he was a great player on the Kings. Could easily bolster out bench.

7. Nerlens Noel - Apart from defacing his walls with sheet, he was a great defender, and basically Paul Reed on steroids, hope we drop Dedmon and grab him.

Counting all these players, and it is really a miracle that Jo hasn't asked for a trade at this point. I truly feel that day will come sooner rather than later. I also buy the Knicks noise. They are looking solid. If they can somehow trade for Jo without giving up Hart, Randle, Brunson, that's a championship contender.

What an utter disaster of a clusterfawk.

We had Ben Simmons and we need to build around Ben Simmons. Thats why.

All the guys you mentioned are not playable with Ben Simmons. And we need to do “star hunting” and trade for Jaden “Avery Bradley 2.0” Springer, because Ben Simmons has not lived up to the hype.

I dont know whats with the doom and gloom outlook. We have an MVP caliber player in Biid, a top 10 player in Harden and a young 20ppg-ish scorer in Maxey. We’re talented than almost all teams out there.

We either have the most promising team, the most talented team, one of the most talented team and first seed in the east since we start competing for playoffs.

Appreciate what we have and let’s just play our best with what is handed to us. Despite all the flops, we’re still one of the best team out there.

Once Maxey wakes up from this slump and we turn up the switch, its gonna be really hard to beat us in the playoffs.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Harden is not a Top 10 player, he is the 17th best player in the NBA, pretty good but not quite Top 10.
The pieces simply don't fit, and the culture is trash, we need to start from scratch, time to trade Embiid and rebuild, we tried and failed, it's ok it happens.

I don’t know, losing out on that list of players doesn’t really elicit an emotion out of me. Bridges is a championship level role player, so that would have been nice. Grant was fine when he was here. IIRC, he wasn’t quite the shooter he became and I feel like we gave him decent minutes. Happy for him that he blossomed into what he is now.

Bridges is the only needle mover. Was in my feelings about him too but we will never get back the period between Hinkie and Morey. Ie when everything went to ****

Offseason 2016.

Long before COVID, it started on a bummer with Hinkie resigning. But even with BC in charge... the team had the #1 pick and all the assets in the world plus a potential world breaking C who was coming back from 2 years of injury purgatory.

How could anyone possibly f*** this up?

Good times.

That Jeremi Grant trade got us the pick that we used to draft Tyrese Maxey.

And the Markelle Fultz trade got us the pick that we used to draft Tyrese Maxey.

Still weird that both of these are true.

This is the one that really stung, and stings to this day. Rationalizations can be made for the rest of your list, some more valid than others, but this was such a blatantly unforced error, to trade a local kid with NBA-ready skills at a position of desperate need (a need which remains to this day) for a project and a pick attached to a prayer for a rule change. Insanity, stupidity, trying to be the smartest guy in the room - call it what you will, I'd say all of the above.

He might not be a #1 or even necessarily a #2 option, but as was just posted he was and is a championship level role player, exactly the type player this roster could have always used and is screaming for right now, and he was here for about 5 or 10 minutes.

If Bridges 'failed' here, it would only have been because the stubborn jackass of a coach this organization has hitched its wagon to would have buried him until he could be dumped for some 36 yr. old fossil who was pretty good five years earlier.

Of all those players the only ones i really think amount to something are Mikhal and Jerami. The rest are defensive zero who play positions where they cannot be that bad and people we had for years and never amounted to nothing.

Fultz is playing well but you cannot be a PG in the NBA without a jumper.

The matisse stuff is bleh, again, sample, guy is not gonna keep shooting as he's right now.

The issue tho is how few assets we got for all those trades, except the Mikhal one. The Grant trade is just horrific in hindsight

I also don't get the shooting critics. we're one of the better shooting teams on the league, the issues are in other areas

All we can do is move forward. And we seem to be on the right path.

Maxey is 5th in his draft class in scoring and we got him at #21. HUGE win there.

The hilarious thing is, even if we didn't made the Suns trade at draft, Mikal would likely get traded as part of the Tobias package

I guess the Sixers beat the Bucks today, Embiid goes for 45+16, and eyeatoma is all over GB

Why would have briges failed? He is a good player period not some guy who needs to be in the right spot.. He is the perfect fourth option on a championship team. Sixers would be the best team in the league with bridges Not sure how you can leave trading a first round pick and the third pick in the draft for Markelle Fultz out of the list of blunders Three huge mistakes. You have every reason to be down this organization has mistakes themselves into a hole they can't eat out of.

Biggest mistake obviously was Fultz instead of Tatum. You add Tatum to the current roster and this is your NBA champion.

Pertaining to the original post here, Embiid is in a quandary with regard to asking for a trade, because I'm sure he knows he can't be traded unless the Sixers get in return precisely the player on the other team involved in the trade that Embiid requires to win a championship. So any trade involving Embiid will be no more than a lateral move, in terms of his ability to win a championship.

Yeah you could be right, although if he does it, the Sixers might do him a solid given everything he has done for the organization and the **** he had to deal with.

Our player development is terrible, and Bridges had a hitch in his jumper. He even mentioned it being corrected in his goodbye post to Phoenix. More likely than not we would have Fultzed it.

Haha, honestly, this team is 2nd round fodder to me, even if they beat the Bucks. Too inconsistent, and Doc is an idiot. I'm not rejoicing unless we go on a 15 game winning streak. Somethign has to change, and it hasn't happened. Also pretty down on our bench, especially after we gave up Isaiah Joe and Matisse, and wiffed on the buyout market.

Atleast one of them could have been Jo's longterm backup.
