I hope Silver won't overreact, he's young, stupid and overcompensating, the backlash is already enough of a slap that snaps him back into reality.
Suspend him 10-15 games and let him back for the PO.

If this were a one-off, I might agree with you. But it's not. It's a series of events with escalating, bad behavior oftentimes including guns.

He's on a bad track and they need to get his attention. A wrist-slap isn't enough.

He probably should be suspended the rest of the season for this but he won't...that would surely get him on the right path, believe me.

But the Grizz have a legit shot to win it all and there's no way in hell that's happening.

So my solution:

- Give him a curfew for road games
- Take away his cell phone
- GPS Monitor to ensure he abides by curfew and team can track his location

Memphis to Denver is like a 17 hour drive... its unlikely someone from his entourage would have drove there... the only way he gets out of it is if it ends up being someone else who owns it who met up with him in Denver.

Why would that get him "out of it?"

Gets him out of the trouble from taking it on the plane... perhaps gets him out of trouble with local Denver are law enforcement if the person who owned the gun brought it in to the establishment and Ja just grabbed it quick for a picture/video with it.

I don't know about the plane, but I doubt that law enforcement looks more favorably on waving a borrowed gun around than your own.

Personally the IG live video is idiotic but I don’t see that as suspension worthy. And personally even the rule of “don’t bring a gun onto teams plane” seems kinda stupid too. I mean why can’t you bring it in packed luggage like every other American?

If he brought a gun to a game it's a pretty huge deal, just try walking into an NBA game with a gun and see what happens. Best case scenario for a fan is they eject you without a refund, and give you a lifetime ban from the arena. Worst case they call the cops and press charges, it's funny when people want to give NBA players more slack on this **** though.

It's less about the specific IG incident and more that he's had a string of bad news back to back. 1st the laser incident, then the children beating and showing gun allegations and now the gun flash on IG.

Just having them all in succession is like 3 strikes.

For the same reason that businesses can prohibit guns on their premises, even though guns are allowed without restriction in that state. It's a private plane, flying for a private company, so they can make their own rules. It's really not that hard to understand.

I have 2 answers to this ...

1. Insensitive: "Internal struggles"? Like making bad choices? When did that qualify as a mental illness? But, in 2023, all folks gotta do to garner sympathy is toss out the 'mental health' excuse and everybody excuses their irresponsibility.

2. Sensitive: Jay-Z had a famous line, "I'm not a businessman. I'm a business, man." That sentiment is probably hard for anyone, let alone a 23yo, to grasp. Hope the right people step in and explain the league doesn't need him and will move on without him. So don't waste your opportunity.

I heard Bill Simmons was going to do a podcast event in Memphis.

Suspending Morant basically means to outsiders don't invest any basketball money or resources(Broadcasting) into the Grizzlies since they won't have their media draw.

The NBA and the Grizzlies organization have to weigh what loses them more money.

This is an age of activism among players in the NBA, which is supported by the NBA owners, league, and team management. I think Silver and the Nets were drawing a red line about what sort of activism is tolerated. If Kyrie wants to promote black groups, black culture and black history then it's supported by the NBA. But Kyrie cannot promote a pro-black group that also happens to be anti-semitic.

Kyrie deserved to be punished because he pushed back on this. He thinks he should be able to use the NBA platform to promote a pro-black, anti-semitic group.
