I would be very surprised if we get back to the finals let alone win it. Looking at our roster for next year I think we need to get a center who can play a full season and we need a true point guard who can create for others. II think JD Davison has potential and frankly I'm disappointed that Joe hasn't given hims any pt because he needs to develop. I'm fine with trading smart, grant and Pritchard if it will get us a big or other pieces we need I'm also fine keeping Smart but using him in a diminished role coming off the bench.
As for Tatum I'm not sure he will ever be a number 1. He's a nice player but disappears way too often and is too inconsistent. The warriors completely took him out of the series by double teaming him and while his passing has improved he still doesn't seem to know how to handle the pressure once teams focus on him. as an aside for the life of me I don't get why Joe doesn't double team Mitchell. He kills us every time and none of our players can defend him.
Tatum and Brown are now 6 year players in this league. they are well past the point where we should be waiting for them to mature. they are what they are. The triumvirate of smart, Brown and Tatum has had enough time to develop but they keep making the same mistakes and they keep blowing leads. it doesn't seem to matter who the coach is.
There is something in the chemistry of those 3 that doesn't work. we should have won a tile last year- those opportunities don't come around very often. this year, despite Brogdon and improved play from white, we seem further away. Grant has regressed, Rob can't stay healthy ( nothing new there) and Smart has lost a step if not two. the much hyped bench is soft and inconsistent.
Muscala has been a dud and brad failed to make a meaningful addition to the team at the trade deadline despite Wyc giving him the green light. again, ,too many hurdles. Unlike last year when we peaked at the right time, this year we peaked back in November and December.
Breaking that up may make it slightly less horrible to read
I disagree.
