A point guard that does not shoot 3’s, does not get to the line, while simultaneously not getting a lot of assists is an inherently flawed player. You can be deficient at one, but not all three.
I don’t care how many cool athletic plays he makes for himself or how often he hits a mid range jumper. It doesn’t translate into being an effective lead point guard in 2023.
I don’t need to be Jamal Mosley or Jeff Weltman to make these claims. I watch the games.
It’s a simple equation. IF Paolo and Franz are the cornerstones of the future roster THEN Fultz cannot be your starting point guard.
I just find it funny the reaction to this obvious statement is placing blame on shooting guard or bench guys. You are all lying to yourselves because you can’t get past the idea that Fultz doesn’t fit.
I would love to see him get to the line more. Maybe he can get a little more respect from the refs... but the other part is... that he gets great separation from other players. I would love for him to get more physical and mix it up... but more times than not... he's going where he wants to be with his handles, size, and athleticism. And since when does 5.6 assist look bad... when you've got 2 forwards in the starting lineup that want the ball in their hands... a playmaking center... and 2 pg coming off the bench?
The 3's we will see where that goes. needless to I think he will be working on it. I'm just saying... he still has development... and the team hasn't gotten a fair and full shake with him. And yeah... you see what they are doing in the games. But we don't know what practice and training look like. Maybe they do have more trust in certain aspects and the evolution of skills....that others may deem as just straight a lost cause.
As i said in another post.... if we attain a superior PG.... done deal. But i think what bothers me are the ones that try to make him sound like a "crap player" because they want to push their agenda. "Oh... just waive Fultz to get FVV" ... :-/ as though he is an answer. He might... or he might lead our team to nothing more than what we are now.... but on a $30 million/year contract at the age of 30.
With fultz and Paolo's and Franz's recent step backs... they have shown the potential to being a .500 team. The one thing i would love to see... is more assertiveness from harris and the team getting him the ball in the starting lineup. He has what we need.... but is a ghost most of the time.
I don’t care for waiting on a guy that doesn’t do what is necessary at point guard to figure out how to do point guard things. I don’t want the FO to have a reason to pay him $25m+ on his next contract while he’s still “figuring it out”.
I would rather draft a guy that already does those things plus more.
And yeah, I don’t care if we move Gary Harris or find his replacement as well. I was pissed when we handed him a contract and everyone thought I was insane for voicing that opinion. Turns out I called that one too.
Both things can be true. Fultz doesn’t fit with the core and Gary Harris hasn’t been a starting caliber shooting guard for years.
As you said with all of your "I don'ts" ... it doesn't matter what you think. so... just stating why it might not go your way because you're so focused on what you want... though you don't make any decisions at all. Needless to say... F*** yeah... i'm totally down for george ... smith jr. .... dick... pickup. shoot... i would take two guards even... hoping that at least one... or both hits.
AND if that's the case.... we turn Fultz into trade chip of actual value to find the next player. But.... i think some are undervaluing him because he doesn't show what they want "NOW"... but for a first long ... uninjured stretch of NBA play.... he has done great.
