It's both. However, it's a scheme thing. Teams like Purdue and Virginia are susceptible to losing because they are low possession teams who emphasize defense and never get out in transition, even when they get steals.

Maybe but when I see these aggressive presses, I just see foul after foul not called. Refs need to get a spine and call the body contact and swipes.

The big story is obviously Purdue falling to a team nobody has ever heard of. They had zero answers for Furman's speed. I'm lazy, so here's the best recap I could find if you need some catching up to do.

Saturday, March 18 (Round of 32. All times Eastern)

No. 5 San Diego State 75, No. 13 Furman 52
No. 4 Tennessee vs. No. 5 Duke | 2:40 p.m. | CBS
No. 1 Kansas vs. No. 8 Arkansas | 5:15 p.m. | CBS
No. 7 Missouri vs. No. 15 Princeton | 6:10 p.m. | TNT
No. 1 Houston vs. No. 9 Auburn | 7:10 p.m. | TBS
No. 2 Texas vs. No. 10 Penn State | 7:45 p.m. | CBS
No. 2 UCLA vs. No. 7 Northwestern | 8:40 p.m. | TNT
No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 8 Maryland | 9:40 p.m. | TBS

Hard to game plan for a team you aren't playing in the tournament

hahaha thanks. I'll fix it.

EDIT: Purdue lost to Fairleigh Dickinson in a 1-16 matchup. Virginia lost to Furman in a 4-13 matchup the day prior. Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks for choking, Dukies. Stack another $120 onto those numbers from my last post. It's been a profitable 4 day weekend.

C'mon, somebody else has to have some big wins to celebrate, losses to commiserate, prospects who caught their eye, etc. Every bracket in the nation is busted, so what. These games are still some of the most thrilling basketball all year long.

Im going Houston -5.5. I don’t think Sasser is playing but they’re pretty damn good and auburn is a weird team…I don’t think they’re that good from what I’ve seen

I'm not sure I've ever seen a cleaner block than that one Arkansas [Mitchell] just had on Kansas. How in the hell do they call that a foul?

I got them at the same -5.5. I'm just not an Auburn fan and don't think they're that great of a team. On the other hand... Houston is really, really good. They can cover.

Refs seem heavily favored for Kansas.

Too many fouls period in this game. Worst officiated game I’ve seen in 17 years

I got Arkansas at +7.5 and thought it was a lock before this nonsense.

I've seen fouls determine wayyyy to many games in this tournament so far, but not in the obvious way.

Nah, they just like to get 1 team into the bonus super duper quick and the team is forced to play more and more timid the closer they get. Plenty of time to make up those foul calls later, but there always seems to be one team over the other in the bonus in record time.

Team A can get fouled 20 times. Team B can get fouled 20 times. Team A can spend 8 minutes in the bonus while Team B only spend 4 minutes in the bonus.

EDIT: And eff that last foul call taking Davis out of the game. Get out of here. Can we get some BIG10 refs over here, please?
