I can't see chucky or essegian leaving but maybe I guess. I think Wahl and a couple of the bench guys will be gone either via graduation or transfer.

Don't want this to come off as a pure Wahl bash. And I get that he's a competent starter level player. But he was so rough this year and having two bigss/nonshooters is likely the cause for the such a bad offense and product to watch. I wouldn't mind him going as long as the replacement '4' can shoot. Hopefully they can then ditch the double post offense of this year and get back to ball movement and 4 out. But as Kerb has pointed out, its not something we've done to try and recruit over. And in general with how blah our recruiting is to bank on getting someone better, bird in the hand so to speak. I suppose a factor unknown to us would be how much his ankle injury affected him this year. But, to me that should have nothing to do with how his shooting regressed (he'd shown signs of improvement in years prior and this year crashed).

If you could get a shooting 4 and Wahl is cool going for 6th man of the year as the backup to both 4/5 you'd be onto something. But no way he does that, I suppose maybe if he's in a certain degree program here and wants that extra year for a masters or something.
I think Wahl is an All Big10 level player with better offensive players around him. He is good enough at everything to be really valuable and he's a tough sob. He was just horribly miscast as a main option this year and forced way too much at the rim.

That's also how I feel about Chucky and why I'm generally so defensive of him.

If they had a wing that could slash and score or a big man that actually can help him on pick 'n pop, he's a great 3 and D PG that doesn't turn it over a ton. When he's option 1A with Wahl being 1B on your offense, neither can shoulder the load.

YEa for me it was just the overall pairing of two bigs who can't shoot. That just doesn't fly in modern basketball. Like I said, wasn't trying to make it out to be a bash of Wahl. Wahl just seems like the more likely of the two to leave, and he's not 7'0. I'd doubt they'd push him out or anything as he is a solid starter. But if you could get a slightly worse general player, but who has the skillset of shooting it might actually be better for the team. Or whoever they do get as a transfer big better be able to shoot, then you can stagger the two non-shooters as much as possible

I don't follow college hockey a ton so smarter people can correct me if I'm mistaken but this seems like a good hire, won 6 straight conference titles, has been to 2 Frozen Fours, a really good overall record.

At this point, I don't know what it means as far as being a "good coach" to be good in the CCHA. Maybe it still means something - I just literally don't know. But agreed, seems like a good hire on paper? I'll let twirly tell me how to feel.

We could replace a starter, none of them would make me totally sad if they left, but I hope the entire bench leaves other than maybe a McGee type because he’s solid in an emergency role.

In theory, Davis and Gilmore as nice emergency players and shouldn’t have been main bench guys but that probably doesn’t benefit them to stay here and do that.

Davis probably lands at like an Illinois State type of gig?

Stopped over by reddit and they are incredibly high on Gard still. I found that a bit surprising.

Davis should be looking at a mid major.

On raw talent alone I would be all over this. Guessing he'll get to go wherever he wants to, though, and that it won't be here.

His stats aren't impressive, but Gonzaga this season was an old team - and may be again next year with many Juniors > Seniors and Seniors > Covid Seniors. I dunno much about him and maybe he will still be bad and not crack a lineup, but this appears setup as a situational case and not a talent case.

He’s the biggest bust recruit in Gonzaga’s history and he’s 20 now, he’d be better off going to a mid major where he can do whatever he wants offensively to try and salvage any shot at the NBA. The last thing the Badgers need is guys who can’t play offense. Recruiting stars are like your college GPA, two years removed they are meaningless.

It’s telling that Gonzaga was looking for starting guards in the portal when he would’ve been slated to start.
