When this year’s schedule came out and I saw all the cupcakes early, I thought this would be a great way to start the season, to ramp up against weak competition while our team learned to play together. I got that 100% backwards. Early in the season, these young teams are playing all out, and they aren’t resting vets. It’s so much better to play lottery teams at the end of the season - when they are thinking about the lottery.
Fortunately, we have POR and SA for two of our four remaining games. Now, this team has definitely shown they are capable of losing to even the NBA’s worst by not getting up every single night, but you would hope with their playoff life on the line, they’d come with the proper motivation against two teams that might prefer to lose the game.
Playing in Brooklyn Tuesday night could be a tough game. I’m sure the 42-35 Nets would prefer to win and hold onto the sixth seed, but they will likely be two games ahead of MIA, and two games behind the Knicks, so their position is probably pretty secure.
The final season game against the Pelicans will be wild, and is likely to move the seedlings around for both teams, I can’t wait for that one!
We could have really used a win against the Lakers, but the truth is, that West Coast swing really saved the season. We just need to finish it off.
